Tinted Moonroof...to Tint or not to Tint?!!!

I've tinted all my windows (except for the front and moonroof..) at 28%...but didn't tint the Sunroof. Someone gave me some BS that you wouldn't want to tint your sunroof because it defeats the purpose of having a moonroof and all that...now I think I'm regretting it...

Anyways just wanted some thoughts on whether to tint..who's done it and how dark...and what are the advantages of having the moonroof tinted.

My personal opinion is to not tint it or if you do, use a clear film that just blocks UV rays. I just keep the cover closed during the day and then slide it back open at night.

Before I got tint I never used the sunroof because the glare in my eyes was too annoying or the sun was too damn hot. I got 5% tint on the moonroof four weeks ago and I love it! Now I keep the sunroof open all the time, I get a little more light in the cabin at all times, and I don't get the blazing sun on my head. I highly recommend 5%.

why the heck would you tint the moonroof, can't see sh*t at night, that includes staring at the moon (sorry, that was kind of corny...why do they call it moonroof or sunroof anyways?)...just close the shade

Well...uh...I don't look out the moonroof when drive, night or day. But it's nice to leave the sunroof open to get a little more headroom as well as a nice amount of light.

I leave mine tilted open all the time. It just has the stock 35% tint on it. I don't have a problem with it. But I might get it tinted to 20%. Who knows.

I tinted my sun roof 5% tint, it reduces alot of the glare that you would get on your navi screen if you didn't have it tinted. If I didn't have a navi I would of probably left mine not tinted.

Dude, when I first bought my Maxima, the moonroof glass was clear and the FL sun just HAMMERED! I made a U-turn and had the tint put on it. It was a wonderful thing. You can have your moonroof open and let the sunshine in, but it doesn't punish you for it. If you want the open air (at night...don't need a suntan...)you can always open it. If you live in a very sunny place, I'd HIGHLY recommend it.

Hope that sunroof does not snap on you. But I am sure it is sweet being that dark. As a window film manufactuer you have to worry the absorbation rate of the film. Putting a 5% film on there, that absorbed number is going to be in the high 60's. And being that the sun is on it all the time, it gets a little scary when it rains after a long hot day. I would tint it no darker than 20%. That is what I have on mine.

No tint... You have a shade...If I am not mistaken, it already has a slight tint.

Forget the moonroof..........

Tint the windshield if you really want to see/feel the difference.

good topic though, and I know some installers who refuse to tint the sunroof past a certain % for the reasons mentioned above. Mine was tinted when I got it, and the glare bother me sometimes, I may get it darker when I have the rest of my tint re-done.

Thats what ive been thinking about doing. Just dont want to attract any attention from the authorities. So whatta ya think? around 50% would be good right? not too noticeable on the outside but help darken the inside quite a bit.....

I would if it was my car. I know people in your area that buy my film. If you want I can send you to one that would tint it. If you were going to do it, I would do a Krome 55 on it. That is the film we make, only 10% visible light reflected (glass is 9% from factory), 50% light and 48% total solar enegry reduction.

it would make a major difference on the inside from heat and glare. our films are so crystal clear you would love it.

if you get partical shading or if the glass cools to fast from rain or other elements from the 5% films that absorbe way too much energy to be safe. plus the factory sunroof already has some tint which you have to watch out for

I tinted the windshield of my 85 Camry, 94 Vigor and my 01 CL-S and have never had a problem with the authorities. I'm sorry I do not know what percentage it is. It is dark but you can still see inside. It makes a huge difference here in Tampa in the summer. It really keeps the dash from getting heat soaked which helps the A/C cool off the car much quicker.

yeah the guy that tinted my windows told me that tinting the moonroof could be dangerous. this was when i lived in san diego and right before i moved to 29 palms in the desert so i said no to that. a tinted moonroof and 110 degree weather didn't sound like it mixed too well.
