Tint questions...

Search didn't help me much...

I'm thinking about getting my CL tinted. However, a couple of questions...

1) I don't know what the tint laws are in Indiana. What is the easiest way to find out what they are, short of calling the cops and asking?

2) I live just a couple of miles east of Illinois border. If the tint laws between Indiana and Illinois are different, which knowing my luck they are, can I get pulled over if I have something tinted on my car that isn't allowed in Illinois, even though I'm an INDIANA resident where it's legal. I'm guessing the answer is yes, but I just want to make sure.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Since someone else started the topic... I have a few questions of my own.

1. Whats up with the tint ripping off the defroster lines of your rear window if you ever get the tint removed? Is the tint really that sticky? Has anyone actually had this happen?

2. Do you have to use any special methods to clean the inside of your windows once the tint is applied? Can I still use newspaper and water?

3. How many people have problems with the front window open/close motors after getting tint. I heard a few people complaining about this.

4. How many people tint over top of the dotmatrix stuff on the top of the black windshield? If im getting tint somewhere between 50%-35% all around will it be obvious from the inside of the car that the tint doesn't go all the way up on the back window?

You're in Gary?!?! :flamer:

http://autowindowtintings.com/main.cfm?action=laws is pretty good... Not sure if they are up-to-date for all states, but most places don't change laws too often.

I have. It was on an '88 Prelude that I bought used with old purple film on the windows. When I went to replace it, the old film took the defroster with it. I would hope that new films wouldn't do that, but...

Yea, that's a pretty common problem. I got mine done (tinted OVER the matrix) with 20% Madico Metallic tint and it looks okay- not great, but better than some of the other jobs I've seen out there. It all comes down to the installer- so you should check out their work, especially the dot matrix section before going to him.

Some folks here have used a black vinyl and they say it looks fine that way. Others have been satisfied with simply avoiding tinting the matrix portion.

I think that if your car is nice, clean and classy looking(no nike stickers), you won't have to worry.......unless your windows are limo tinted.

I just gave this place a call, and he said about $130 bucks to go 35% all the way around.

I have no idea about tint...

1) Is that a good price? I didn't ask what kind of tint he was going to use, etc.

2) Is 35% too dark? My county, Lake, says 35% is cool... I don't want it too dark though. I really just want to keep the sun from beating the crap out of it. Anyone got any pics?

Thanks.

One more question...

Illnois doesn't seem to allow tinting of the front window. Would it look dumb to just tint the other four windows and leave the front as is? I live 2 miles from the border and the last thing I want is to be given crap by the Police since I frequently cross into Illinois.

I have 2 friends that had TO PEEL THEIR 35% tints off the front windows on the spot when they got pulled over around here.

I might do 35% on the back three and 50% on the front two. Even though it's till illegal, it's not as bad.. hopefully.
