is it time to clean my cai filter???
the uni filter and the K&N are two different things. I've heard the UNI filter literally has to be cleaned like every 3000 miles .. which I think is ridiculous. I took mine out after 3000 miles of using it to swap for the K&N and it was really dirty. I've heard K&Ns can go for 10s of thousands of miles without being cleaned, because the way they are made actually uses the dirt as a filtering element once it is trapped... or something like that.

I swaped my CT filter with a K&N cone filter about 5k ago but I haven't cleaned it yet. I plan on doing so soon though.

Because of it's design the longer you leave it on (dirty) the better it filters. Really no problem with it until it becomes restrictive. Which would take a long time.
A clean K&N filter does not filter smaller dust particles that a dirty one would.

I just reached about 5,000 miles since installing the CAI, and cleaned it earlier this week. It wasn't that dirty.
