Tied an STi

Saw a nice blue STi on M59 (Hall rd) here in metro Detroit. I've always wanted to run one and I noticed he took off quick from the light, so I floored it and he didnt put any more distance on me. After he realized I was racing we slowed to about 60mph and we both punched it. He got a slight jump on me, so he was ahead ~ 1 car length. Through 3rd it was dead even, and then after I shifted into 4th I inched about a 1/2 car length so my bumper was with his passenger door. It was basically a tie though, since neither of us really gained any serious ground on each other.

He had what looked like his dad in the passenger seat, and I was alone. However I had just filled up with gas so that probably hurt a tiny bit. I really would like to race one from a stop, since my tires love this warm weather. I bet someone with turbo/awd would be surprised what a soft suspended rwd car with dr's can do from a stop.

This was in my mustang btw, if you couldnt figure that out.

the outcome would depend on how hard the STi was launched, assuming you could get out well.

a well driven one should run mid (or even low) 13's, but you hear about people running low 14's in them all the time.

That's about how a pretty-much-stock 6spd would do against an STI. The ONLY reason STI's run 13's is because of their off-the-line capabilities with AWD. The CL-S with just headers pulls on the STI (or EVO) in 3rd and 4th.

Yep, I'm sure my CL-S6 would have done just as well, if not better, from a highway roll. It would get murdered off the line though.

Alot of that mph comes from 1st & 2nd gear though, cuz it has crazy aggressive gearing for stock, plus the advantage of awd.

If you said WRX I'd totally agree, but I don't think the same is true for an STI or EVO w/ the weak 3rd and 4th. The CLS will need more than headers to pull on either..........unless you were talking about the WRX.

In a CL-S6MT, 3rd and 4th aren't that weak.

3rd & 4th are pretty damn good in the CL-S6, altho I think the best gears in my car are 2nd & 3rd. 1st is just too damn steep and 5th is a dog of course. From a 60mph roll 3rd is pretty strong.

If you run a 6MT up to 6900-7000rpm, 1st - 40mph, 2nd - 63mph, 3rd - 91mph, 4th - 125mph, 5th theoretical - 160mph

Well in reality 60mph is redline, so 10mph is def not worth the extra shift. You'd be much better off putting it into 3rd at 50mph, since it will only take a millisecond for it to be in VTEC, and the extra shift would negate any acceleration advantage that 2nd would give.
