ticking noise from engine

So it seems theres some loud ticking noise coming from my car. Usually I hear it after the car is warmed up and it seems to be constant during idle. I've heard my friends tell me its most likely my lifters or my fuel injector. Should this be covered by warranty? Also keep in mind I have i/h/e. Also if this is covered by warranty would the rental car (if I get one) be covered as well or would that be something I need to pay out of my own pocket?

my car does the same thing....i don't know what it is, I hope someone else here does. It's rather annoying.

At my dealer, they supply rental cars at no charge.

you might need your valves adjusted, they are solid rockers and they need to be adjusted or you get a ticking noise, try this get a long stocket extension and put it on the vavle cover and place it on your ear if you hear the ticking louder then thats what it is if not then it might be the injectors, you can also tell the difference between injectors and lrockers because the injector is just a click while the rocker arms/lifters are more of a metalic sound.

if i do need to get my valves adjusted would this be covered under warranty? and by vavle cover do you mean the plastic cover that goes over our engine?

i have this same sound, seems like it was coming from under the engine, the car is stock(no headers) could the manifold be cracked/leaking. i was told also that it probably was the valves and to get them adjusted

sounds like the stopwatch from the show 60 seconds

when the valves need adjusting, what's the negative result from this? are we just losing more power??? Thanks in advance for the input.

ok no the the adjstment would not be covered under warrenty, valve ticking is really fast usually multiple ticks, a header leak usually comes in when the engine is hot and goes away when its cold, while the valve tick is always there but gets louder when it get hot. the vavle gover is the metal cover where the spark plugs go through the center of it, you have to take off the plastic parts to get to the valve cover. if they are justed wrong yeah you can do damge, too loose and you get extra ware on the valves and you get lower power, too tight and the vavles don't close all the way and you will get a burnt vavle because it can't dissipate the heat and you still loose pwoer.

well i visted the dealer today and the service rep didnt really know what could have caused the ticking noise. i asked him if it could be the valves and he seemed to just agree with me w/o really knowing so he scheduled me an appointment for next week tues w/no charge under warranty. but if the ticking noise is from the valves, like civicking said it will not be covered under warranty and cost around $400 to have them fixed. the service rep also said this is something your car has problems with when it has bout 100k miles on it. if this is b/c of the valves should i spend $400 on it to get it fixed or should i just wait it out longer as it may be just a regular wear and tear thing. i have 29k miles on my car or little les.

I'm a little confused....You have 29K miles on your car and they are having you pay to have the valves replaced? Seems like warranty should cover it.

I have a ticking noise coming from under the hood all year round, my dealer didn't think it was anything serious and it's been doing it for as long as I can remember. I just assumed it was the emissions control valve under the hood that makes the noise in the winter. I have close to 85k miles on my car and it's been happening for 45k miles at least.

for a luxury car it sure does make a lot of shitty noises, like the air conditioner hissing.

whoa it should not be that much all you need to do is get a valve adjustment that takes about an hour at max two, at the dealer rate of 75-100 an hour it should not cost you anymore than 200, i would say about 120. you are getting ripped off. and can you discribe the ticking, is it a fast metallic sound kinda, sounds like more than one ticking, or does it sounds like one single ticking, listen around the engine compartment, try this get a stethoscope and place it on different parts especialy the valve cover and so on that way you can pinoint the noise better, try that before you take it to the dealer that way you know where the noise is coming from.

its just a constant clicking sound that comes one after another. sounds like an old school film strip being played at the movies. best i can describe it.

you know its hard to tell without hearing it but it might be valves, but during the valve adjustment they are not replacing anything just adjusting the clerence between the vavle head and the rocker arm.

I also think it's the Purge Valve Solenoid. The same thing happens on my car at times. It sounds like when kids put baseball cards in the spokes of their bike tires. It is a common occurrence, from what I remember from previous threads (do a search).

It happens warm or cold. I notice it the most during the winter.

They aren't being replaced, they are being adjusted. Big difference.

No. An adjustment is a maintanence procedure.

the noise was due to my new headers. since the new headers metal piping was thinner than the stock ones i had on you could hear the engine or watever working due to the thinner metal.

I think the ticking is normal, I remember reading some threads that its just something our engines due. The Acura service rep (whom I actually trust) says its normal. I would be weird that 10 + people on here all need to have valves adjusted at low miles. If anything I think its just a charactertistic of the engine. I could be wrong but that's what I remember from searching a few months back when I was worried of the noise just like everyone
