Those with a manual - I NEED YOUR HELP!
I just had my car at the Dealer to get the left CV joint and front Motor mount replaced. (probably from hard driving, but they covered it anyway and said it was the first ones they had seen go out @ ~ 50K miles)
Anyway, I had also complained about a surging tranny at cold start. They couldn't duplicate it, but told me that my trans fluid was really bad and needed to be completely flushed - ALL 9 quarts! They wanted $109.95 + tax to do it! - I said, "No way - I'll do it myself!"
I just did the 3 qt. change 10K miles ago, and I've done it every 12k to 15k since I've owned the car. But, I remember last time - the fluid has smelling pretty bad...a little fried smelling.
Anyway, I tried to get them to do it as a tranny failure preventative measure under warranty, but since they were unable to duplicate the cold start shudder, they said that Honda wouldn't authorize it.
I plan on getting the SC in 2-4 weeks - as soon as they are released, so I'll be adding a trans cooler and flushing it all out with new Redline Synthetic anyway...
MY QUESTION IS: What is the procedure for a COMPLETE TRANS FLUID FLUSH?
The service adviser told me you have to drain then refill, 3 SEPERATE times, using a total of ~ ten quarts. Is that true?
They used to disconnect the lines to the cooler in the trans, hook up a machine that pumped ot all thru; But, since we don't have that now, I can see his point - there is no way to pump it thru like they used to...or is there? Could'nt I just run it thru the return lines when I install the trans cooler?
I just want to verify the procedure with the shop manual!
Thanks in advance for everyones help!
