For those with DVD in navi setup...

I'm gonna work on it soon, once i get the AVC... but for those who have it... does the video ever produce any 'noise' at all? Cuz i recently saw 4 twisted cables in a single shielded cable by Monster Cable... its a bit pricey, but he quality is definitely better than the 45 feet i bought at home depot... i was wondering if its worth investing in a better wire for the RGB color. Is it worth it? Cuz if you guys experience noise on the screen, i might consider gettin better wire... what do you think???

andy,

You should ask Ron at StreetEffectz.com. He could probably tell you if it would help, but remember the wires that you are talking about(the four shielded ones) are for video lines. I believe they have nothing to do with sound. The sound comes straight from the RCA output connection of your dvd player (PS2) which connects to the RF Modulator. From there RF modulator RCA cables intersect between the cars antenna and that's were you get the sounds from. I'm not electronic technician but this is what I think, I cound be wrong. Call me on my cell phone if you don't understand what I just wrote.

Andy,

You saw my Navi set up in my car. Did you notice any noise on my screen? Can you explain noise on the screen? Maybe I don't know what your exactly talking about.

Thanks,

Hey guys...

Instead of noise, i guess i meant signal degradation. I heard from some guy a while ago, that video signal quality decreases linearly with the length of the cable, but this is also a sales gimmick to prove that Monster Cable's products prevent that degradation from happening.

Monster cables are indeed very good and are almost essential when dealing with auto setups inside a car cuz of all the radiation... And i thought since 45 feet is kinda long, i was wondering if it would make a big difference to get better wire...

So what i was asking was instead of noise like flickering on the screen... simply put.. the quality of the video just wouldn't be that good. But if you guys think its already good, then i'll take your word for it. I guess its kinda like being able to tell the difference between S-Video and Component Video...

Dragoon- As for the AVC's... I've checked everywhere online. Most places you call will say that they have them... BUT THIS DOESN'T MEAN they have them in stock... Places like this order them from Pioneer and ship it to you. Most places don't even know that the product has been discontinued long ago from Pioneer. So once you inform them of that, they just say, ok, well, we can't get it then. I've tried over 50 places, and no luck.

well, personally I am getting noise but its not degraded. my screen is sometimes distorted but just a little. I see lines going cross. but it does'nt realy bother me too much. I have not spent the time yet, to see how to clean up the noise, most of the wires I used are shielded. note, I'm not using the AV-RGB1.

How did you get the video on your navi without the RGB1?

i emailed them all...no one can get it! they say "sure...one day turn around" till they find out it's been discontinued.

and all the makers should be at CES so customer service is gonna be in the crapper for a while.

i heard jvc has a convertor and i know alpine has one...will it be the same procedure??? some have said the gex tv tuner works...

If you use a 4 pdt relay instead of a 4 pdt switch, you can use all of 6 inches of video signal wire instead of 15 feet. The wire you run to the front on the car for the physical switch itself will only carry normal electrical current used to turn the relay on and off, switching your video signal from navi to dvd.

I have mine setup this way, and picture sharpness is good, though I do get some rolling lines on the screen, though they are very minor and hardly noticable.

Pioneer GEX7000P TV Tuner, you can use that instead, but it requires you to get a second monitor.

this way is much easier. switching between navi, tv, dvd is done through the remote control for the GEX. also the modulator comes with the GEX. all for about $250 and its avaliable.

Why do you have to get a second monitor? Do you not use the monitor in the dash anymore?

I'm guessing that he's got one monitor (the stock one in the dash) for NAVI and one monitor for TV/DVD etc.

This way is not an option for me. If you want to use the stock LCD, you HAVE to get an AVC-RGB1 to splice your second input into the current screen.
