Thinking of trading up....03 CLP for 03 CLS 6spd.

I know that this would be a great upgrade, I'm just questioning how much they'll give me for the CLP towards the trade. It is an 03 with about 6k miles on it.

Hopefully it won't be too bad, what do you guys think I could get for it?

It is in perfect condition, minus a minor ding in the rear bumper from a lady that hit me on the Interstate last week. Her insurance will pay to get that bumper cover replaced.

Of course I'll have to have this repaired at the dealership....I would want to since it's a brand new car. You think they'll give less because of that?

You should be alright if you get it fixed. The bump doesnt cause no mechanical damage or anything like that or even bend the frame.

sorry to ask but...

You must have paid a shitload in taxes and fees to get the car. why the trade in now? why didn't you get the cls in the first place? pretty expensive mistake if you ask me. i don't think it's worth it now, after the fact. just wait til you want a new car in 4-5 years and then trade in.

For the love of God, don't trade it in ... at least sell it yourself and save an extra $2k.

You trade in now, and you're going to be driving a $35k CL-S and be upside down in that car until the day you pay it off.

From prior experience when I once traded in a damaged Fiero, they only deducted their cost to repair the bumper. However, the insurance paid my cost to repair the bumper, which was several hundred dollars greater.

So, it may pay you to trade it in as-is and then keep the money from the insurance company.

How could you trade in the Fiero? That thing is a classic!

Oscar don't do it I just went through this last month. I was trying to trade for the 03 6 sp. and the dealer wanted to give me 23,500 for my 2002 CL-S with 11K on it. My car is in perfect condition b/c it was garaged kept since day one and still only 23K. Drive the CL-P for at least two years and mod it to look like the type S.... After two years with the competition that is coming out you will forget that you ever wanted a 03 type S.

Classic POS is what it was. At least it served as bad example: I will never consider another GM product ('cept maybe a new 'vette).

The Fiero GT V6 didn't seem like a bad car when they finally cancelled it. I kinda liked it.

Of course GM doesn't get anything right til they decide to kill the model. I'm still amazed that GM makes money in America. In Europe they make good cars ... over here ... poop.

Too much money to be lost on a deal like this. 2k on taxes alone. I thought about trading for a nav version of my car, it's just not worth it.

Thanks for the input guys. I think I'll wait and let my next purchase be something with a manual transmission.

I did get this car for a graduation gift so it wasnt my choice. I really wish it was a 6 spd though.

Question: Did the CL only come in 5spd auto, or was there a 5spd manual option as well?

Also, I had a friend with an automatic bmw and he had it converted to a manual transmission for about $3k...Is this possible with the CL for similar cost? (That is just a thought, I'll probably leave it like it is for now).

Thanks,
Oscar

There wasn't a manual in the 2nd gen until 2003. The 4 cylinder model (2.2/2.3) in the first gen. had a 5 speed manual
