Thinking of getting CL-S

I currently have a 2001 Corvette Coupe, but am seriously considering getting rid of it for a CL-S coupe.

I need something that is more of a daily drive, but still want some fun

For those of you that have installed the Comptech headers... is there a seat of the pants difference in performance?

After owning a Ford Ranger, Mustang GT, '99 Ford Lightning, and now the Corvette I have come to the conclusion that Japanese cars have a MUCH better build quality and often for less $$.

I actually wanted a CL-S before I bought the Vette... but was "talked" into the Vette. No one thought I would be happy with the performance of the Acura after being used to the Lightning.

Then my Dad buys a MDX last month, I drive it around a few times and fall in love with the car and the quality.

Anyway - I look forward to your replies on the Comptech Headers!

Thanks,
Jeff

IMHO, there is a very small difference with the headers and it's noticeable only above 5000rpm. Don't expect to feel anything during normal driving and anyone who claims they get more performance from it during normal driving is crazy!

Wow.... from a Vette to a CL-S. That's going to be... ummm... interesting!! The CL-S will obviously be much more comfortable but there will be huge differences in low-end torque and handling. I'd go so far as to say the handling differences will slightly outweigh the acceleration differences. A stock CL-S is probably going to feel like a '76 DeVille in turns compared to the Vette. If I were going to get a CL-S and spend $1200 in mods I'd forgo the headers and do Comptech springs and sways instead. They completely transform the handling of the car with very little penalty in ride comfort. In short, the springs/sways are simply a much better value than the headers.

just my .02.... and good luck with your decision!

To be perfectly honest, No. There is some preformance difference but its at 6000 rpm...30hp to the wheels...??? At $1400, 30hp took .2 sec off my 1/4 mile. I got the same from a $200 intake.

I own a 2000 Vette and I will tell you what you need to mod on the car...

Suspension and brakes.

You need sways and springs and new pads and better tires.

If you want the best performance gains Id say wait for the 6 Speed to come out. Otherwise I think you are better off spending the money on just a cold air kit and the AEM rotors with stainless lines and synthetic brake fluid. The car actually felt dangerously uncontrollable to me when doing a panic stop coupled with a swerve back and forth around an object. (try it and you will see what I mean) I have the 6 speed and z51 suspension on my vette and I am waiting for the 6 speed to come out to get the CL-S.

Also look into the "mystery mod" when it comes out in a week or so

combine the MM with the headers and this is what you'll be looking for and well if you're not looking to save money over the vette do the above plus the previously mentioned brake spring sway tire upgrade and then comptech supercharger and you'll think you still owned the vette
