thinking of getting 19's

Ok ive been thinking about getting some wheels

maybe the so ever popular axis se7en mods or maybe some chromies. But i think im leaning towards 19s. Now i know 19s will= harsher ride but how much harsher will it get? i currently have both comptech springs and sways installed and the ride quality has noticeable gotten harsher. Now will riding on 19s on 35 series tires be even harsher?? what about road noise and performance? How much will it affect the way the car drives, handles and brake?

also im not to worried about potholes cause the area im in dosent have a lot. but there are a lot of bumpy roads especially on the highway, now will this cause some wheel damage? In other words if i was to drive through a speed bump with 19s at 30 mph will that warp the rim?

Im trying to understand how potholes actually cause damage to the wheels...

19" wheels call for tires with little to no sidewall. ie 235/35/19s.

If your tire pressure goes down a bit due to colder temps outside, and you are unaware of it, the next pothole you hit could bend your rim since there is so little protection between your rim and the road. I now ride around with a cordless air inflator to make sure I'm always running at a good PSI. I've spent maybe, ohhh, $600 - $700, possibly more repairing rims. Only one was because I did crazy curb check, the rest were due mainly to potholes and shitty road conditions.

*knock on wood*I haven't been back to the rim repair shop since I put the inflator in my car.

If you drive over a speedbump ast 30mph, you're rim would be hosed.

PS I drive the car very hard. Others probably haven't had as much bad luck as I have, but this is my experience.

so even if my tires are running at a good psi, driving in really bump roads will warp the rim? Wow i didnt think going over a speed bump at 30 mph will bend the rim. we have a lot of speed bumps in my neighbor hood and before the springs and the sways i could go over them easily at 40 mph Now i have to slow it down a little for comfort...

so i guess the rule of thumb is to constantly check the air pressure in the tire.

Holy shit sidemarker, speed bump at 40!! Are you talking about a actual bump, or more like a speed ramp (ie. up a little incline, flat, then down a little incline) or the little speed bumps that are maybe a foot wide ?
The speed bumps here are mad crazy, have to go about 2 MPH over them, or you will fuck something up.

let me clear this up a bit. im refering to the new types of speed bumps. the ones that are placed in newer subdivisons... they look look like a giant pad on the road!

ok, I gotcha, thats not as bad. With the 19's will want to slow down a bit though.
I am going to be putting 19's on my car also, so I understand your concerns.

Will the tire size rub with a Comptech drop?

My ride is definitely harsher but still very tolerable. More than the ride stiffness I noticed more road noise probably from the thinner sidewall. On the highway the ride is probably close to the same, just more noisy. knock on wood I haven't had any damage and we have some pretty bad roads around here. Like Mantis mentioned just keep them inflated properly (42-46 psi)

You don't have to baby the rims like they were made of glass or anything just be alert so you don't slam into a pothole, curb or speedbump. The newer subdivision speed "humps" should never be a problem unless you hit them so fast you practically jump your car over it.

i thought you were talking about normal speed bumps, even still, I wouldn't go flying over one @ 30mph.

nope, .. not at all.....

why?: 225 series is not wide enough unless you have a really low offset wheel,

and: CT drop is basically nothing, and you still should have plenty room for 225-40's

If you're current set up is riding harsh, getting 19's will most definetly add to the harshness! The road noise increases quite a bit with 19's. You'll notice every bump on the road. And like everyone said - be very aware of potholes etc.
