Thinking of buying an '01 CL-S...

Hello! I am seriously considering this 2001 CL-S that is being sold. The interior/exterior is in terrific condition and it has around 78k miles. Everything seemed good about the car when I took it on a test drive. I didn't notice anything bad about the tranny and everything shifted smoothly. The owner told me that it still has the stock tranny. The owner also said he received an letter about the tranny issues from Acura and it checked out fine at the service center. However, I'm still a bit skeptical about the tranny, especially since the warranty is almost up. Would it be wise to buy it?

i'd get the previous owner to replace the tranny first... or you can do it yourself... it still has the warranty... our transmission's are pretty shitty, haha.

They don't replace transmissions until they fail... If it ain't broke, it's not a warranty issue...

25K more until 105K maintenance and the worry of the infamous glass tranny on that bad boy ...Look into the cl-s 6, trust me you won't regret it and no one here has encountered any major problems with the 6mt.

Shouldn't the transmission warranty be over as the car was purchased in 2001? Man, this CL-S is looking worse and worse by the second.

There was a major design flaw and a class action suit. The judgment made Acura extend the warranty.

I enjoy the car very much even with upcoming tranny problems. i say upcoming because i havent had any since the year i owned it. Just be ready for it and enjoy your car. at least you still have a warranty, im driving a salvage! besides it sounds like a pretty good deal compared to what i paid. if you can find or drive a stick then i would get the 6 but dont let the auto tranny keep you away from a great car

Thanks for all the help so far! So there is another 7 years on top of the regular warranty or whatever? So when will the warranty expire if it was purchased in 6/2000?

In that case, the warranty must be expired . Luckily I found a 6-Speed CL-S about 50 miles away that has 72K miles. They are asking for $12K. Is it worth that much? Would it be possible to lower that to around 10-11K (which is my budget).

Yeah, it's 7 years, so 109K which ever comes first.

The 109k instead of the usual 100K is due to the class action odometer lawsuit.

It's 7 years from the "in service" date, so CL's sold before 4/14/01 won't be covered... You'd have to call a dealer with the vin to find out the exact in service date.

My 03 has a in service date of 10/04/02, but I only know that 'cause I'm the original owner...

answer to your question

Well I bought a Cl 01 S from the original owner and the car was in perfect conditions...82k miles on it. He had all the paperwork for replacements. Which was a good thing. But when i had for 4 months, i was leaving the gym and heard a whinding noise. Automatically i took it to the dealership and said that the tranny was going out. But knowing that they had a recal on it...i had it replaced for free. So buy the car if you really want it. But be prepared to get that tranny replaced when the time comes.

The tranny's are hit or miss. Get the Six if you can afford it.
