I think if you take it off without using stuff to get the residue from the old tint and then tint over it with 20% you will have a problem!

If you have never removed tint before I would not do it. Not to say it is impossible, but... BUT, you are just removing the side tint, so you don't have to worry about ruining your rear defroster. You may just only scratch your side windows at worse.

basically i was just wondering if there was something i could pick up at the hardware store that would get under the film and destroy the bondbetween the glass and the film.

When i had my windows re-tinted, the guy at the tint shop told me the process of removing old tint is actually harder then applying new tint. He said its a major pain in the ass getting all of the glue off the windows. But if you really want to do it yourself, you could always call a tint shop and ask them what they use to remove the glue, it may be something common that you could go buy from the store.

after i had my tint-job-from-hell a couple months ago, i took off the crap that was on the back window by myself... it was already coming off a lil bit around the edges... i got annoyed with it so i just started pulling and it all came right off. no residue at all... which made me wonder if there was somethin wrong with it to begin with (besides the fact that the shithead guy stuck it on in 4 separate pieces)... cuz i know it's usually supposed to be really hard to get tint off..? any ideas about this?

A good shop should be able to do the back window in one piece.. Sounds like a ghetto shop.. It shouldn't come off that easy but it's possible.. Did you have all your windows done? I can recommend a good shop for you in the South Hills.. But I don't know anywhere closer to you..

Rear windows should be one piece. Any good tinting shop can take tint off for free, unless they used a glue adhesive. Top of the line tint (llumar, solar, etc.) requires NO adhesive.

the tint usually comes off pretty easy, the residue kinda sucks
the few times that i've done it i spray the the tint with ammonia
throw a garbage bag over it to keep it wet park it in the sun for about 15
min. maybe run the heat and then go to town with a razor blade
