Thinking about headers.

Headers are my next purchase.
What does a CL-S w/comptech headers and a CAI do 0-60, 1/4 mile, and what is the resulting HP and Torque? Roughly.

I guess on a CLS-5AT:

WHP: 220-225 WHP
0-60: in 6.2s
1/4 in 14.6-14.8s

Stock 0-60 = 6.6 secs, and about 14.9 1/4. Of coarse different conditions and cars will vary a bit.

Its a big difference in the 6spd and once you hit about 3500RPM range and up you are flying in style.

ask all the q's you want .. but you'll find that searching for this topic will reveal a wealth of information that you probably won't get with this particular thread .. most people have talked their brains out about the "headers" topic, and it would benefit YOU more than anyone else to read all the hundreds (no joke) of threads pertaining to this issue .. i did, and made my choice to purchase the Comptech headers and icebox, never regretted my decision after installing them.

best of luck

I have read and read since joining a couple months ago and have learned a lot. No, this was one thing I just hadn't read anywhere and thought I would ask. No big deal, right?

Hairy,

I hear ya bro -- sorry to sound "mean." Check "1/4-mile" or "track" or "dragstrip" in the search feature and then check the sigs of people who've taken their cars to the track -- you'll find my thread and many many others

have you searched these topics yet?

My car dropped from 15.3@ 89mph to 14.8@96mph in very humid, warm condtions at the same track w/ poor track conditions (not so sticky) and very shitty tires up front.. (stockers w/ 30,000 hard miles on them).

i achieved the improvement w/ headers and icebox

Stock I had 200whp. After the OBX headers I had about 220whp. I seemed to have tested high on the before header thing though. In any case, after the "at the crank" conversion you will have 300hp roughly. I have seen stock cars test around 195whp. I was suprised when I pulled 202hp. In any case, you WILL fee the difference. CT is expensive and OBX are noisy but the gains are real. Intake gains aren't as noticable IMO.

Ask away. Once you aren't a newbie you will realize that the same questions come up all the time. Welcome. There is a LOT to learn here. I came in as a total dummy about the potential of our cars. That has changed a bit.

You may get a lot of sh!t but hang with it, this is a great group.

For CT, you need to talk to Dean. I think the Black Market section has his info. He gets a nice discount compared to the CT website. There is an OBX Racing website but I dot mine used off a forum member. There is a group buy going on for Stone headers but there are fitment problems. For Stone, PM NAshua Night Hawk. Advantages vs. disadvantages....the Comptech are great from the reviews of it...the have no resonance but the are a LOT of money. The OBX and Stone you can get for $400 or so. The OBX have resonance at 2500rpm so you "buzz" a little ricey at that point but other than that you just sound a bit louder than stock. I have found that it is pretty easy to avoid that resonace by being a bit agressive. Stone has so low lever resonance but nothing like the OBX. Personally I have never heard CT headers but I know that they don't resonate at 2500rpm like the OBX....depends if you like the $600 more.

Intakes:
Loud howl? Go for AEM on Injen. Slightly (very VERY slighty) louder and looking stock under the hood go for Comptech's Icebox.

Good luck.

in all fairness, one has to specify that headers would add up to peak 20-25 WHP, most gains are attained after 5500 rpms.

Those gains are most noticable in Gears 2 and 3.

SC, Turbo, Nirous are real WHP adders, actually they add real torque all across. a 45 lbft all across from SC is like 25% real performance gain.

Here is ModAddict CT SC Vs CT headers and CT ICEbox:

Vs Stock, Mike's CLS-5
