Which of these would be a good project car?
Hi, my thought process has changed again, and I'm looking at a cheap, easily moddable project car, that looks good, is stick, and I can own at stoplight races with. It will not be a daily driver, more of a weekend/track thing.
Out of these:
1988-1992 Mazda RX-7
1990+ Nissan 240SX
1990+ Toyota MR2 Turbo
Which do you guys think would be best for my purposes?
I really like the MR2, mid-engine, RWD, turbocharged, and it looks hella good. But I'm not too sure about it. Any comments/opinions?

Nissan...Tons of parts available, but unless you want to dump super $$$ in it...slow.
Toyota...if you can find one that is not a total high mileage shitbox, you're in luck. Lots of parts available, fast as shit...easily to mod the hell outta, fairly reliable. You can find a ton of swappable parts on ebay(shares turbo & other parts with the 90's Supra). Don't forget, your local Toyota dealer can actually support your aftermarket parts...ala TRD...unlike the other two choices.
Oh, and a 88>92 Supra Turbo is another cheap racer...just a thought.

Get a civic. I saw a 97 w/ 147K miles for $3k. I'd assume that you could buy one in your area for about the same. Once you turbo it, and hole a couple of pistons from running too much boost, you'll have to swap a motor anyways so mileage isn't really a issue
Probably can get a 12 second car put together for under $10K if buy alot of used stuff.
I can't have any more project cars till I sell another 2 cars, so I'll have to live vicariously thru you guys who can have a weekend warrior car

Sorry GM, but I utterly loathe Civics, with a deep rooted passion. I realize they can be fast, but Civics are dime a dozen, and not really worth the time and effort. I want something that's SOMEWHAT unique. Not the ricer special-of-the-week.
I think I'm gonna go for the MR2 if I can find a nice one.

My friend has a '92 RX7... it's a great car! ther'es some really good shops out there in FL. I know it'll cost a bit to rebuild but once you do it it'll last quite a while. He's had his for the past 50K miles with no problems after his new motor. It costed him about $3500.

The car runs great and puts down low 13s while barely a bit tuned over stock. I know it could do a lot more damage at the tracks.

I hope you got loot to do this. The 240 would prob be the cheapest to mod considering you can swap JDM, RB, & 300zx parts into it. I wanted to get a project car, but calculated with insurance and all it would cost me as much as my acura. goodluck

ok, as a moderator of a silvia section, i'm slightly biased.
I'd say go with the 240 because of the HUGE number of choices you can go and the power you can get out of those bad boys. the 240 is the only one in that list you can fairly easily put a small block V8 in it!
if you have any questions about costs or how-to's, look me up on NissanForums.com.
i'm the odd honda/nissan enthusiast. just look in the dallas thread... hehe

Im being dead serious....Forget all of those cars and get a old 5.0. You can get a early 90's LX 5.0 pretty cheap. The potential to go fast in a straight line is much greater and the mods are dirt cheap.
