Testing waters

Hey guys, I'm thinking of selling my CLS6 because of my growing family. I hate the idea of losing power and everything but we all have to sacrifice at some point. I want to know if anyone has an idea of how much I should be able to get for the car. 115k miles, did the 105k tuneup, always use mobil 1 synthetic. You can see my mods in my sig but I also kept all the oem parts. Any opinions?

I wouldn't take less than $7k, $6 if you absolutely must. I have an 03 CLS6 with a few mods and 134k on the dash, and those are my numbers. Hope that helps

I'd say the problem is that if you sell it, it isn't worth much. I'm a huge fan (and owner) of the 6MT CL-S but we are very limited in number. Most people can't deal with a 2 door car and it's the same story with a 6 speed.

Your car is highly desirable to a very small group of people not not very desirable to a huge group and the value in $$$ will be reflected by that. If you did sell the car, I think you would be hard pressed to find a replacement for it at the same price.

I'm sure you situation is different than mine but selling the car doesn't make sense to me unless you absolutely have to.

I hear ya about not having a big audience, etc. I thought I'd always keep it but I stopped working to take care of my daughter and go to graduate school. We still have a payment but I can get a used ES 330 for the same price of my payment now. I just want to sell so I can have more room for the family. I hate selling in this market and I hate losing the car but I gotta do it.

Most people don't appreciate a meticulously kept car. So many people just look at the miles of a car and don't realize how your 115k mile car probably runs better than most 50k mile cars.

Id say about $8k being optimistic but like you said, selling in this market is really hard. In all actuality you might be better off having such a one of a kind car. When I was searching for typical cars, I had my choice of 100 cars in 200 mile vicinity and it makes it much easier to wheel and deal for prices.

But with your car, try doing a search of similar cars in the area, you're most likely not going to find many. This probably will play into your favor because if someone really wants it, they are probably not going to play many games. You just need to have some time and not need to sell the car asap so you get lowballed.

Either way, good luck

Thanks everyone. I'm not in a hurry, so I'm in good shape that way. There are only two for sale in a 500 mile radius from me which is helpful. Both over 90k miles... one is selling for $8000 and one is selling for $12991. The second place is dreaming cuz their car is bone stock. Either way, I think I can probably ask $8500 in this area and maybe go down to $8k. It's crazy to think of how quickly these things dropped in price!

I had civic I bought for $10k, put 20k miles on and sold it a year later for $10,400. I put several thousand dollars into my CL, but 50k miles and three years later it's worth 40% of what I paid for it. Oh well, still did better than my 401k! jk!

Look at a Honda Accord from the same year, with the same options, and you'll find their Blue Book is much higher then the CL-S. Sad. Oh well, cars are never an investment.

IS300/400s are pretty old these days. Thought about getting an IS300 with a manual and turbo (same turbo as a Supra) after riding in a friends wanna say IS450 or something like that in Australia (it's basically the IS400 body with the 300 engine and a turbo sold there) but went with the CL-S instead. Think the CL-S is overall a nicer and more updated car. The IS is pretty dated these days. Most have high mileage and still cost too much for the mileage and options. Insurance wasn't much better to the point where you'd save much. Plus you have to think about the hit you take every time you sell a car and buy another. I don't think it's a worth-wild change.

Never fails, every time I want to sell a car something happens. It's not a big deal but I hit something and my tire blew out today. Just $100 or so, but FML!

The accord model had renewed in 2003 so its not really comparable, unless u compare it to 2002. in that case, there isnt a lot of price difference.

for OP, you car will bring in about 6 at the auction, you should be able to sell it for about 8 easy. The reason why is because ur miles are over 100k.

For all of those thinking about selling ur cls, sell them on or before you hit 70-80k miles mark. anything over that the price goes down by a lot.

oh and when you do sell a car, if its 100% stock, it will bring in more money than if it has modifications done to it. period.

Man I have spent over 7k on my cl since December. Sad to know i could have 2 cl's by now lol. In the end it dsnt really matter to me tho cause i will never sell and this car will last me a good 10 to 14 years. Hard for me not to get attached to a car i've been driving for 7 years. I still look forward to everytime i get to drive it and still think it is a sexy car. I must be crazy cause I am content with my car and dont want/need anything more( i am not marrried and will never have kids tho so dont need 4 seats/doors). I would take a lotus exige or nsx tho.

3k on repainting car, 550 for 3m paint protection, 1200 ssr wheels, 350 tires, 750 ct headers, 310 rt cat, ct strut bar, progress rear sway, legend calipers 120, ebc rotors 310, ebc pads 130, all 4 calipers/brackets powdercoated 150, alpine navigation unit 310, ct mufflers 600, lug nuts 200, center caps 170, morel tempo front comp speakers 225, dc5 steering wheel and rsx airbag 375.

Also replaced front control arms, lower ball joints, bearing in the steering column, and headlight bulbs with phillips 5k ones.

And that dsnt even cover everything I think I feel sick. So who wants to buy my car for 6 grand.

I forgot to mention my zeal coilovers and rsx seats also. Sad thing is from the outside my car looks basically stock, but that is look i was going for somewhat.

Its a very big difference when you spend that money on mods VS having no choice but to spend it on repairs.

Well it looks like the decision was made for me! Found out yesterday that we're having a second baby! I'm thrilled but it definitely sealed the fate of my CL...

Hey there! We are both in California. I've seen CL's like yours on car lots for 9k. As a private owner you should be able to get about 8k.
