Tell me if I'm outta line, here

I’ve had lots of really annoying problems rectified by the dealer I purchased from (see list.) The last time the car was in for warranty service (HU replacement, etc.) I was given a 2002 TLP with 700 miles for a loaner. Yes, Acura of Columbus always gives me either a CLP, or TLP!

Anyway, shortly after driving the loaner car, I realized my 1st gen brake pads were crap compared to this car. The brake pedal itself was the first thing I noticed. The loaner TLP had a much better feel, with a lot less effort needed by my foot to stop the car. I didn’t say anything when I picked up my car. But today I talk to the service manager on the phone, and he gets kinda lippy (instantaneous “tude” from the get go.) At least that’s the impression he left me with!

I state to him the above fact, only to be told the new pads are to rectify the famous “warped rotor problems.” Of which I immediately had after pulling out of the lot (car had 16 miles!) on purchase day.

Rotors have been replaced (all 4), but the original pads are still installed. I’m supposed to stop by next week for a tech test drive, and asses further. Yeah, right.

If he fails to cover the new pads, I’m going to press this with Acura CS. Don’t you all agree? And while you’re at it, go test drive an 02, tell me you don’t feel the difference! You, too, might want the new ones as well.

Anyway, here’s the warranty work so far.

1. 08/14/01 Replaced front / rear rotors
Sunroof TSB
Adjusted right muffler height
Replaced drivers armrest assembly
Gave me free touchup paint!

2. 08/31/01 Car pulls to the right (can’t duplicate.)
Excessive valve train clatter (NPF.)
Windshield washer TSB

3. 09/25/01 Finish ww TSB
Replaced passenger armrest assembly
Stereo HU random crap on display (ordered.)
Excessive valve train clatter (again, NPF.)
Car still pulls, 4 wheel alignment.
Sunroof wind deflector TSB.
Ride disturbance at speed (can’t duplicate.)
Fixed interior creak in passenger area.
Order multiple console are pieces (factory blems.)

4. 10/16/01 Replaced stereo HU.
Replaced lots of center console pieces.
Excessive valve train clatter (still ok, )
Debris is cleacoat. Car needs clay bared.
Free oil / filter chance.

Sorry for all the details, maybe this post will help others as well, who knows. Any, and all responses welcome. But, let’s try and keep this one professional, as I’m planning on taking this thread with me when I go to visit the dealer next week.

TIA - Jim

Damn dude, either you're extremely picky or your car has every possible flaw. Better check the actuator and order a new tranny while you're at it. :p

LOL! I've checked the actuator 3 times allready, it works fine. Same with the tranny.

Your right, I'm very picky, and this car seems to be a prime candidate for a LEMON replacement if I get any sh!t from anyone who remotely works for Acura!!

I think I have a couple of pieces that I would consider as factory blemishes. The cut out around my hazard light switch isn't a clean shape all the way around. I thought that I was just being picky and I'm sure the dealer would think the same if I tried to get it fixed.

But the question is, can I get it fixed? It was like that the day I got the car, but I didn't notice it during the test drive. Are they required to fix a problem like this?

Absolutely! Get on the phone tomorrow, and let your dealer know your concerns. Politely, no doubt.

ROTFLMAO! God I love that boink. At least I feel as thought I've been given the appropriate reach-around. I'd say it's time to beat on the owner for an 02 swap.

The sounds usually associated with a much needed valve adjustment. It's really appearent after the cars been run fairly hard (i.e. - a good cruise using SS.) not a problem with cold engine startup.

The 2002's TL (both P and S) have new pads with a material designed for more friction and the brake pedal ratio has been changed to get an improved feel....
