Technical Question about Radiator - 2nd Gen
Does tranny fluid get cooled through the front radiator in 2001 CL Type S Auto's??
The techs insist I have tranny fluid leaking from my radiator. Can anyone confirm if this is possible?

the radiator does not cool the ATF like old cars use too. thats one reason that tranny only takes 3 quarts to change the fluid rather the 11 qt like my old mopar use to.

the reason you only get 3 quarts out of our trannies with a simple drain and fill is because the rest of it is in the torque converter, and wont simply drain out. The whole tranny holds much more than 3 qts.

I just went to the dealer and had them put the car on the rack to show me how they diagnosed the problem. The tech pointed to the tranny fluid coating the plastic splash shield and said 'see, tranny fluid all over the place. It's leaking out of the radiator.' I had told them no less than 3 times that I did the tranny fluid change myself and that I had spilt about 1 1/2 quarts of fluid on the splash shield near my Comptech tranny cooler. The guy then replied 'oh, I guess that's it then. Well, maybe it's something else then...' DUH!!!
Ugh, the original problem was I though I was leaking oil cuz my dipstick came up bone dry. Maybe my car just went through alot of it over the last 3 months. I'll keep an eye on it and definitely won't do the $800 radiator replacement they told me I needed yesterday. It's a good thing I browse this site cuz I would have taken their advise and had the 'radiator' replaced to fix my 'tranny leak'. Geez.
