had car in for other service and they replaced the pcm what is this and its function? it was no charge so i can't complain

 

It's an updated ECM to compliment the trans .

I have my original tranny with 29k and they haven't replaced the ECM yet. Is it important for people still on the orginial tranny?

Has anyone officially found out what it actually does? i.e. does it impact the overall performance but softening the shifts, shifting earlier, etc.

I don't care about feel as much as I do about performance. If I'm slower by more than a 10th, then I'm pissed. Although that would be extremely hard to prove.

after getting a new tranny, the car doesn't downshift as often or downshift to the lowest gear possible

i usually go 60 mph in 5th and then gun it and the car will automatically drop to 3rd...but now it just drops to 4th...maybe to prolong the life of the POS tranny???

 

Have you tried gate shifting to see if it will down shift to 1st at 30mph or in to 2nd at 50MPH?

you dont have to gate shift to down shift into 1st at 30 SS and D will do that too...
