Smile Take a ride to the wild side...

Well, the journey is never ending for me. I've done everything I possibly can performance wise and I feel like I'm not getting enough out of my car. I've set some money aside to do something I have not seen done to a CL-P. A swap.

"A swap you say?"

A 6MT swap that is. The CL-S 6 engine and the 6MT tranny. I've been searching vigourously lately to find the right prices for both. I'm also in the process of contacting places left and right of who can do what and for the right price.

The Plan.

1st, the engine. It will be modified to a 3.5 liter. If I can't find a place around my area I might just send it down to another state that can. When the engine comes back the tranny will be waiting with new parts already attatched and be ready to put in.

2nd, boost. There are Comptech Superchargers still lingering around, and a few left at Comptech. The other route is a turbo. I'm still trying to out way what will be easier. Comptech...40-60hp more...meh...easy though...or Custom turbo...100+hp...yay!...expensive and harder setup.

3rd, juice. This is the last thing to consider. But it would be fun to see what the engine can handle.

I expect the project to start around June. Keep you fingers and hopefully you'll see something good come out of this project at the end of the summer or sooner.

Nice, I can't wait to see what will come out of this.

Is this the top-secret project?

that might be cheaper. u could get the new 3.5 litre tl s and turbo or supercharger it. maybe even stroke it to 3.7 using parts of the new mdx.

I would think the wise money would be trading your car for a 6MT rather than doing the swap. First, it's going to cost quite a pretty penny. 2nd, your car's value won't rise much. 3rd, what do I care? It's your car, time, and money...hell, go for it.

Serious project! Hope you have the means, the time & the will. Plan it out well. Most projects like this never get done or get done half assed because the owner doesn't plan well, & thinks it will be easy.
Dreams are 1 thing doing is totally different.

A friend of mine did that to his 99 TL-P and it hauls ass, but its kinda noisy with rattlesd and such. Gonna be pretty straight forward, but mad $$$. maybe you should find a CL-6 and swap over the parts you have on your CL-P?

I assume you are talking about Jae's car....it was noisy intially because all his mounts were shot and so was his suspension. After the mounts were filled with poly it drove 1000 times better...he recently also swapped his suspension as well, but I havent gone for a ride yet. He did mention it drives alot smooter....there is no reason why a car with a motor/tranny swap would rattle if it was done right, and Jae's was..

Why not just sell your car, and part some of the swappable things out on it, then buy a 2003 6MT and bolt the swappable mods back on and build the engine to a 3.5?

Seems to me like it'd be easier, more sensible, and it would give you the opportunity to pick up a different CL.

Sounds pretty stupid to be doing a swap in a car that is readily available with the 6 speed already installed. I understand the TL guys because the 6 speed option was not available.

well, a turbo would look nice on that car. It's a big project, but it's not about money, it's about passion for modding. Good luck, love to see extreme ideas.

Comptech supercharger adds a lot more than 40-60hp.

S/C'er and headers added 100+whp to my automatic most likely even more on a 6-speed. I think Scalbert dyno'd around 330whp.

While this swap is entirely possible I'm just really not a fan of it.

There are so many cheap CL-S 6-speeds out there. I just don't see the need to go through the trouble and expense of doing this swap unless you're in it for the love of doing it. And by that I would imagine you would want to do all the work yourself (which you've stated you aren't planning on doing).

Unless you plan on keeping the car forever I just don't see why this would want to be performed. The car won't even be worth the cost of the swap once you are finished.

To each their own. That's just my

if you have to stick with a CL, do this. if it's just speed you're looking for, please try again - with a different model car.

Though I do agree with the others about it not being practical, I'd love to see the finished product. Keep us informed.

I agree 100%. On the TL its a different thing IMO, but you can pick up a CLS6 for too cheap...its really not worth going through the hassle. Parts etc on this swap can easily run 3500-4000. i cant imagine labor being cheap, and chances are the mechanic has never performed this swap before...which translates to more labor. you might want to look into options of having your car shipped somewhere to have this done..

He probably does, and with a number like 600 that whole comment was probably supposed to be in RED

My car isn't really worth a damn to begin with...I thought about swapping to a CLS6 but I declined. There are only a couple in this state that I've seen that I don't like because of the color match up. I'm way too lazy to fly to another state to pick one up.

I have no plans of letting the car go any time soon. I've put too much time into it, so that's out of the question.

I just need a real drop, that'll be last unless I feel the need to put some Tiens on now.

EDIT: Come on guys, you know you want to see another beast on the board.

I know you have put alot of work into the CL-P. But why not just get your hands on a CL-S 6MT and boost it. WAY easier route IMO

Motor work is the easy part.

Are you planning on finding a place to do the swap as well.

I know of a few places that would do the swap. I can use a wrench, but I don't have the necessary tools to do the swap.

how about something crazy like another engine and transmission from a totally different model car? I would keep it FWD though to cut down on costs and headaches! I can't think of a better FWD oriented engine off the bat maybe the next person who posts can help with some ideas.
