Are Sways self installable?
They are a bolt on parts correct? Can these be installed by a regular Joe (Josephine) or do they need to be flexed into place thus requiring special tools or a lift.

Anybody with an opinion here on this? I mean this isn't like compressing springs or taking back seats out. I would think that this involves removing the current OEM equipment and installing the new equipment with new bushings etc. The question would be if it required a great deal of force to "flex" the bar into place. I do not know...

I don't know. I don't think they are just bolt-on type products. And I am assuming you would need to lift your car somehow to get underneath. But maybe scalbert has some thoughts, since he does a lot of his own work.

The rear sway is easyly done. But I believe that they front sway runs under the A pipe and you have to remove the A pipe to remove and install the new sway.

Well, I wouldn't say "self" installable. I mean... I've never seen any part actually install itself. But that'd be a neat trick and would really help sales I bet!
...sorry... I couldn't resist. Sounds like something you'd say, eh MikeS?

Sway bars usually have 2 bolts on each end and 2 places in between where it's bolted to the frame ,(4 bolts), or subframe cradle. The rear is similar, but all of this depends on suspension geometery and wether the bars themselves are adjustable. The non-adjustable bars are the easiest to install and can be done at home on the ground with a jack. If you can change your own oil, you can change the sway bars!

The sways can be self installed, you don't really need any special tools to do the install. I would recommend you definetly have the following, and with 2 people it's a no brainer:
-Get a heavy duty jack
-Get seveeral jack stands for the car (advise against leaving the car on the heavy duty jack when you are working on it)
-You should with no problem be able to do the fronts and then the rears.
-Get one of those allen wrench tools with like a gazillion allen wrenches in it; you'll need it to remove the lower control arm bushings which you will reuse.
-Obtain some extra grease (lube??) for the bushings, it's better to have more than not enough.
-Obtain a torque wrench to torque all the bolts back to the specs given in the book.
* When I installed mine, we did not have to remove the A pipe from the headers. If you get it just right the front sway bar will come right out. I did have to remove one of the front wheels to easily get the sway bar out and put the new one in.

Mike: installing the sways is in theory an easy project the tough lies in the sway bar end links which can be very tough to take apart. You will need to jack up the front end of the car and support it on jackstands(take no chances!)you will need an 5mm allen key 14 mm combo wrench (a long one and a short would help)you will also need a ratchet 3/8 some extensions and a few sockets (can't quite remember the size off hand but get 10 to 17mm and you are good). After getting the car up climb under and take a look at the sway end links. It is extremely important that the hole for the allen key be absolutely clean so that the key goes in ALL the way.The nuts that hold the sways in place to the control arms are 14mm.These are VERY tight so you must have your tools square on to the work surface. These are the important points on this job other than that the Comptech sways coime with good instructions.I can't say this often enough use caution when working on the car and especially underneath it.Jens

Jens,
Thanks. I have some 4x4 wood posts and some metal milkcrates to hold the car up...JUST KIDDING!
This sounds doable - Last question - how critical is it that I have a torque wrench to tighten to "proper" lbs. This is the only thing which I currently do not own (might not be a bad investment anyways.)
Thanks again.

I'll call 911 for you hehehe!! Just kidding anyway a torque wrench is ofcourse the"right way" to do this but as long as you have a good feel for how tight a bolt should be you should be fine without it.Have fun and do please be careful.jens

Would an install of this type void the warranty?

Jens? Wayneg? Any thoughts? If I do this install myself, will my warranty be voided?

this self install would not void your warranty unless something was damaged due your installation and this would not even VOID your warranty it would only mean only those parts possibly damaged. Lets say your window stops working(which has nothing to do with your install) the dealer cant say your warranty is voided because of your install-it has nothing to do with what you did
