Well since you asked so nice.
Well I'd only recommend Comptech sways at the moment since they are made specifically for the Acura CL and TL.

At the moment the best deal is from Tim (aka snook) who's business for Cl parts can be found at http://www.autocarparts.com/Comptech/Acura_CL.htm

Good Luck

Are our stock sway bars really so flexible that these comptech ones make THAT much of a difference?

Sometimes sway bars will make a car so tight that it can hurt performance for the inexperianced driver, i have seen many people with GSR, and civic, get huge sway bars, and anti roll bars, spin out, some are made for racing only, but I think the CL BArs wont be that bad, becasue comptechs design was just to enhance handling not race the car

My dealer's gonna charge me 295 with tax.

though Snook charges no tax, but how much is the shipping and handling ?

BTW, my dealer is also asking 140 to install.
the total comes out $450 even.

Our price is $298.95 plus 6% NJ tax-total of $316.89. Installation is $75.00. Although you pay no tax over the internet, shipping on the sites I checked was $21.00 - $25.00, making their price $320.00. Its really a matter of how fast you want them and who is going to install them.

Mr. Wayne. Basic Dealer markup on parts is 75% to 100 %, lets say Comptech gives you only a 30% discount that makes your cost for the sways 200. Come on; 320 installed is more than fare, plus you'll have more customers for Jens. How about starting a discount for the acura-cl forum readers.

List price for the sways from Comptech is $329.95 plus shipping and their reccomended install time is 2-4 hours. We sell the sways for $298.95 plus $75.00 install-total of $373.95. Our prices are discounted already to all our net customers, we will provide you with a free loaner as long as you are over 21 years old and great, personal service as our customers on this board can tell you If you want them for $320.00 installed, all you have to do is convince Jens that I dont have to pay him for his labor!

Wayne,

That is a good deal.

Now what is the deal with Comptech Springs (parts/labor) and a 4-wheel alignment?

I live some 235 miles away, but here the Acura Service Managers in MA , NH are not that friendly at all, so I do like to know.

Thanks.

Hawk-
The springs are $298.95 and labor is $220.00 for a total of $518.95 + tax. the 4 wheel alignment is $49.95. We'll give you a loaner and can get the car done in 1 day, so if you drive down you can check out our huge malls right nearby and drive home the same day

Lovely Number, just what I had in mind to pay for this upgrade!!!

Yes! this is really a project that I would like to do some time this spring. I would love to drive my CLS to Maywood, NJ.

Of course the best time to do this upgrade is on a Saturday.

Also, Next would the Comptech Headers!!

And Since I would be in NJ, I would drop by Xephyr and pick an upgraded CAI. I would love to do the installtion of the CAI myself just to get know more about what is under the hood

Finally, Wayne, do you know of a DynoJet shope somewhere in NJ?

Thanks for your help.

I paid 120 for install, and Yes the SWAYS do make a HELL of a diff in handling. More than the springs. I can't reccommend Comptech parts enough. You won't regret it I promise.

You'll never know what the term "body roll" means unless you driven a Type S w/ sways!!

You've gotta be kidding me.

I was told (by someone on this board, but via email) he got Comptech sways and springs for about $200 each plus another $200 install. So at the most that's $600-700.

What's this $1000 crap?

JRock,

1G is not crap, $600-$700 is too low....

I would love to know at which Acura's dealer you can do that.

I myself saw the Comptech Dealer's price list (Jober's list). Springs and Sways cost the dealer $225 each. Whoever told you $200 each is BSing you.

See dealer cost above, now you have enough to pay Jens, alltho the loaner car is a nice touch. Makes it interesting for the NJ cl owners.

fender4,

Remember $298.95 includes shipping.

Assume lowest cost shipping is $25, they are left with $50 profit (20%) Still reasonable.

Also, $75 and $225(+$49.95) are lowest installation cost I have ever seen from and Acura Dealer.

I simply can't get over how the dealers are practically giving this stuff away. They must be losing money so maybe instead of trying to help out soopa with this board we should take up a collection for the honorable dealers? IMHO..

JRock. Thats news to me, but were the sways and springs new (and honestly obtained) and who installed them. I'd wonder why the person who emailed you wouldn't share this with the board if it were accurate and on the up and up. Unless there were very unique conditions (not for anybody else to benefit from), then I'd look at that claim of $600-$700 for parts AND labor as bogus!

Trust me guys- we don't make much money on these things, but we do make some. The idea is to provide great service and a decent cost and to build business. There are those who will low ball you or try to make a killing in one shot or just plain lie. I have been in this business for close to 30 years and have seen many of them come and go. These are great cars and Comptech makes quality parts. Add great service and friendly people and we figure to have a winning combination. We will always strive to keep our prices as low as possible and our service as high as possible. Remember, compare apples to apples- the lowest price may not be the best value. I am adding a page to our web site at www.parkaveacura.com just for comptech pricing. It should be up soon.

I will review the email that I mentioned - perhaps I mis-read it. I swear the total wasn't over $600-700 for sways and springs, Comptech both.

edit - okay yeah I was way off. Sorry.

$300 for springs, $300 for sways, and another $200 and change for install.

So around $800-850. My bad.

I didn't see anyone mentioning that they actually INSTALLED the sways themselves.

True?

I've looked at the details in the service manual and it seems to be a piece of cake to do it yourself.

If you have a few simple hand tools and some sort of jack (may or may not be necessary but I doubt the change-the-tire one from the factory would be useful...let alone safe) AND the service manual someone even just slightly mechanically-inclined should be able to do it easily in under an hour for EACH end.

As with much in the svc manual, there isn't an index item titled 'change your sway bars' but there are step-by-step instructions for REMOVING the sways...read 'em backwards and you are done.

I'll probably order a set in late spring once the ice/snow/muddddd around here has gone away.

They aren't that hard to install...it's just the stiffness of the new bars is a pain to do. Re-connecting the bar is easy...but then try to re-insert your strut...

I got a hook up at Hopkins Acura, but they still had to charge a little for the dealership and yes there was some tax...

Hey, Can you hook me up? I am friends with the service manager at Hopkins if this helps. E-mail me either way, cool? Thanks.

The screw that attaches to the horseshoe-looking thing that holds the strut...
I was installing springs and struts at the same time...it was actually easier to screw on the sway bar and then work in the new strut. But damn those things are stiff.

Blah, I was bored so I ordered Sway Bars from Snook (nice guy btw). Total was $320.60 shipped. I still think comptech charges too much for 2 metal bars, but whatever, if it helps keep my car more level when I go flying into a corner while racing in the mountains, it's worth it. When they arrive I'll post my impressions then I'll do the same after I get them installed (I figure 3 weeks till they arrive and another week past that for install)
