Sway Bars

Would anyone happen to know the dimensions of the Sway bars from COmptech. I am debating on whether or not to get Neuspeed Sway bars, which relatively come out to 250 shipped while the Comptech's come out to 300 shipped with tax. I know the Nuespeed's Front bar is 27mm Front and 19mm Rear, but I have no clue waht the car comes with nor waht Comptech Sway bars are. IF anyone can have any kind of input I would greatly appreciate it. I alreayd have the Neuspeed Strut bar on my CL and it works great, so I am trying to consider which one will be better for the sways. Thx everyone.

AirC,

The reason why certain sway bars perform better than stock despite same diameter has a lot to do with it being either solid or hollow. For example, although the Neuspeed rear sway may have the same 19mm dimension as our rear swaybar,it's solid through and through compared to ours. Thus it adds more torsional strength allowing the car to not flex as much in corners.

Try checking www.acura.com . They have dimensions of our car, including the sways.

Thanks everyone fo rall the info. I see waht you all are saying about how it must be designed for the car. I am probaly planning to upgrade my springs but i couldnt decide on which springs, but i think in the end i might get coilovers once i save up for it. I do agree with F=ma that the neuspeed competition one will be awesome but i kind of wnat mine soon. WEll if those dimensions were right i htink i might go ahead and stick with comptech just because they already worked perfectly with many other members, their prices just kill be since Neudpseed is so much cheaper, and just the fact that comptech has raised the prices so much since last year...

Actually i think the neuspeed rear race sway is alreayd available but Neuspeed offers no warranty on it and claims its only for race cars. If you go to their website their downloadable brochure says their Front is 27mm, therear is 19mm and the rear race is 25mm. The part number on the rear race, if F=MA wanted to trya nd find someone selling it is: 43.20.32. Dont know anyone selling it at all. IF anyone else can give me their guess on teh comptech sway bar's diameter that would be great. Thanks everyone for all the info. Ill be sure to get some sways by the end of the month.

You also have to remember that sway bar upgrades need to be designed for the car. Just bolting a bigger one on could cause problems. If both companies make the sways for the cls, then that was the result of their engineering and testing. So it does not matter who's is bigger What matters is what configuration does their bar work beter with. They may engineer the bars to be apart of multiple mods like springs and larger wheels & tires. Call both co's and ask their tech people. Depending on what your planning on doing, you either want something that works with stock suspension or a modified one. I would guess that both are designed to handle the full upgrades.

As far as rear sway bars go I think its something like this:

Eibach 23mm
Comptech 22 mm
Suspension Techniques 19mm (adjustable)
Neuspeed Competition 25 mm (not yet available)

The Neuspeed Competitions are the one's I'm waiting for. Should be freakin awesome, 25.4 mm is an inch. Damn, a bar an INCH thick is holding my chassis and preventing twist. Sweet.

I would be weary of a bar that thick..25mm that is. I agree that the handling would be sweet, but daily driving would most likely be nonforgiving due to our independent double wishbone suspension.

Also, the mounting point may not be able to handle the added torsional stiffness, thus leading to ripping of the bar from the subframe.

I understand where you all are concerned about the stiffness but i really dont mind that. Im used to the sports car feel and i wish to have teh handling of an M3 so as far as comfort goes, it doesnt really matter

EricL,

So what kind of ride do you experience over "washboard" surfaces with the Sways?

With the agressive driving that we will be doing, I wonder how long the mounting points will last with the Comptech bars?

I wonder how long they will last too! What is the next step in exploration?

I would really like to know more -- you have very good questions...
