IT SURVIVED!!!! (and so did I)...

So as some of you may know, I took a short 12 day trip down to LA and back up from Vancouver BC...

I averaged about 800+km/ day going down, doing ~125 - 140km/h (flow of traffic).

On the way up, I went from Westport, CA to Vancouver, BC in a single day, about 1,800 KM over the course of 18 hours straight of driving.... (hence the I survived).

The CL had a little "beating" if you will but had no mechanical problems, only one false "tranny failure cluster" when I accidentally turned the key half-way between "On and ACC2" when I budged my knee (the cluster lit up like a Christmas tree).

Got me some new tires too..some Kumho ASX 215/50/17R's and holy friggin hell is there a difference between winter+all season with no tread and brand new tires...

Now onto the beating the CL got...

I was in Cali (heading to Universal) and some "perfectly-legal-US-citizens" gardening truck decided to drop an axe/hatchet on the hood of my car, it landed sideways but it left an axe shaped dent, went down to the primer and tore off my bumper 3/4 of the way... the only thing holding it on is the three screws under the cowl thing (which I don't have) and about a 1/4mm thick piece of plastic (where the bumper didn't break)...

Surprisingly the bumper is still in one piece, it is just missing most all of the mounting clips. The thing between the bumper beam and the frame (plastic part that is rectangular) fell out when I finally came to a stop...

I am just hoping that my insurance corp does a replacement hood/bumper for me... hooray for comprehensive/collision coverage...

Quite, I was very glad I wasn't following any closer ... probably another 2km/h more and it would have been in my back seat...

In the grand scheme of things, it was just an inconvenience (trying to sell the CL now so that I can get a CBR250 or a 400cc sports bike) that will slightly lower the value...

Overall, I had a great time and loved the driving

I can sympathize. Dunno about anyone else, but I feel like ever since I bought my CL, I've had a big target on my car. I get all sorts of oddball, unfortunate "mishaps" with my car thanks to other people/asswipes screwing around with my car. My favorite is the person (never found out who) that seemed to have a little fun slapping some stickers and peeling them off on my car -- leaving the adhesive still stuck on my car. Took quite a while with that Goo Gone...

I guess I kinda tempted fate and drew a giant target on the trunk in the 1/8 " of dust/road dirt that built up... the hatchet/axe thing happened shortly thereafter...

I've had more near hits with this car (all would have been me not-at-fault) than with the other 3 cars I've driven, I usually have at least one driver per trip try to sideswipe me.... its like the panels are massive magnets

*Update*

Kinda took a longer look around my CL to see what is going on and it looks like the splash shield was completely ripped off and the driver side wheel well (maybe passenger too) has the liner forcibly removed and is sitting somewhat oddly to the point that I can see the resonator, if that's what its called, of the stock air intake.

I'm curious if my insurance corp will be replacing everything or if they will be labeling the car a total loss since they tend to put all new parts on when they "fix them"... it would be amusing as all hell if a hatchet thing falling from the back of a truck would total the car but 20,000 in accidents hasn't...

Glad to hear youre ok. Sucks that youre selling the CL but a CBR is a great replacement. You should get a 600 f4i ( I own an 04)

I'd like to start on a 2013(?) CBR400 ideally but I'd rather move up slowly from a 250cc and it would let me start on something more forgiving... far too many people getting killed around here because they started on FZ6, CBR600RR or GSX-R1000.

The CBR400 is probably out of my price range but a used 250 should be snipable off of CL and leave me with enough $$$ to buy full gear (not going to be a squid about it).

So I just spoke with the Insurance Corp and I was told that I get to pay a $300 deductible and the rest is covered by them, I also get a courtesy car for the duration of the repair...

All in all, it could have been a hell of a lot worse...

I was tempted to hunt him down but having the CL past its load limit with camping gear and such, being relatively low on fuel and not wanting a $500 ticket for reckless driving/ excessive speeding and what ever else the CHP would have thrown at me for being from Canada I decided to not cause a huge pile up on the Hollywood Fwy and just went on drivin..

'twas my first time camping (did camping on the side of a mountain, in a valley and on the beach) and I loved it. I can't wait to not be poor because of this trip so that I may start planning my next adventure...

You were in my neck of the woods near Universal. Did the guy just drive off or were you able to flag him down? Did you get his license plate?

He sped off as I was honking/high-beam flashing him and I was too busy trying to not cause a multi-car pileup and my friend in the passenger seat was too busy freaking out to remember/write down the license plate...

I suspect him of having been a "less than legal citizen" of the country...

I was just checking my Fuelly page after entering about 14 or 15 gas receipts from my trip and I just realised that I put 6.5k miles on my CL since March and have spent about 1.2k $ on gas so far ... Fuelly is depressing me...

I put about 50 miles on my 99 Plymouth Breeze before it was sold and about 700 miles on my 02 Kia Rio... I guess I really do like the CL

$1200 isnt too bad. I've put $1100 into my car since mid-May, and I should be getting better mileage then the CL (but Im not)

Leadfootedness?

In FRS/BRZ news, I drove along side a BRZ and I thought that they would be louder... like my neighbor's 67 Mustang... can hear that thing through the aparment floor, 6 inches of concrete and the soundproofing in the garage

I didn't let it get to me, I had full collision/comprehensive insurance coverage and my buddy offered to pay the deductible (since I did all the driving and paid most of the gas), I simply didn't let it get to me. As for bad luck, I'd say amazing luck... probably going to total to $22,000 (TWENTY TWO THOUSAND MONEY) worth of accidents and still not be totaled

Civic, that sucks to hear. I was really considering an FRS or BRZ as my next car... I guess I'll stick to an Acura if they have anything worth sticking to in about four years time, a Lexus or Merc if they don't.
