Sumi's or Yokos????

Stock tires are getting bad. I have had experience with the Yokohamas in the past, never tried Sumitomos. I am not a racing kind of guy, and the car is a lease, so I want it to remain as stock as possible. My high points are road noise and ride comfort, here are my choices:

Yokohama Avid T4, 215/50 - 17, TR
Sumitomo HTR+, 215/50 - 17, WR

Does anybody have these tires on thier CL? If so, which do you like? The Sumis are rated a bid higher than the Yokos, even in the cornering/handling areas, but I have never had Sumi's.

I bought the sumos+ about 2 months ago. They are great and far above the original michelins in every area. Cheap at tirerack.com --$89. I got mine at Sears and they matched that price. Highy recommended. Do a search--there are several members who bought the sumos.

on a 10 point scale, considering everything, including price, i would give the htr's a 9+. i would give the stocks a 6. after 3000 miles i am totally happy with them. sears was happy to match tirerack's price.

Go with Yoko AVS ES100s for $105 a tire on tirerack. I give them a perfect 10.

I've got the Sumotimos on my car, at about 6K later, they still handle and look great (they took some getting used to because they are a little more "round" than the original Michelins so they looked smaller). I have noticed that when I do a little "hard cornering", they will squeel a little bit but still hold the road very well.

Thanks guys for the inputs, Sumis look real good, then the added Yokos seem to be top notch. Remember though, I want that (don't laugh) luxury car feel, quiet, smooth, with a touch of sportiness.

The Yoko AVS seem to be Ultra high performance, that may a little too much for me, sidewall may be that of a Z rated tire, way too choopy, plenty of performance though. Silverknight, I noticed you got 235/45's, can you do that on the stock wheels? If so, that is less sidewall right? Does that make for choppier ride? Thanks

I am also debating between the two for size 225/45/17.

Have anyone bought their tires at dicount tire direct? Right now they are selling the yoko avs es100s for $114 each but with NO s/h. The total would be $456.

Meanwhile tirerack has them for $105 for each tire but the s/h is ~$60 which will come out to ~$480.

So what place is better: discount tire direct or tirerack?

I got the sumitomo HTR+. All I can say is that they are awesome. Good value, performance and all season. The best. Go for those.

Tirerack charged me only $34.xx for 2 day shipping.

chatapuggy1,
the 235/45/17s fit fine on stock wheel. If you order from tirerack.com, they will call you to make sure you mean to order this size. A little less side wall but the ride was at least as good as stock if not smoother. Those are really great tires. Quiet, smooth, sticky, rim protect lips and sporty look. My car looks completely different with those tires on. I heard the only down side is the thread life due to the soft rubber.

How much do you pay for mounting/balancing when you buy it from tirerack by mail?

ive had the es100's for a few thousand miles and so far im thinking my old Kumho 712's are a bit better. Dry traction does not seem as good and road noise is slightly higher. Other than being able to say i have Yoko's, i dont think i really gained anything by spending an extra 23 bucks a tire.

btw i have 225/40/18

Great handling in the rain no hydroplaning. I'm very confident with these tires in the rain.
