I think thats the transmission lock.

You can easily unlock it by pressing the unlock (it should be a small tab near the shifter)

On the old Accord you have to remove a small tab and stick your key in for the release.

pop off the little tab on the shifter area. its on the right. once thats off, push a screwdriver or something in there and you can move the stick to neutral. once there you can turn on the car and go from neutral to drive or reverse.

it means something is wrong with your car, this happened to my car a week or two ago. in my case it meant the tail lights are out.

I have it sitting in acura now, they are going to tell me what is wrong with it.... it worked flawlessly once i hit the shift release.... but i noticed that there was undo pressure on the tranny (felt that way) when i applied the brake or put the car in park... I also thought it may be thee fuses, b/c i replaced the tails, and stepped on the brake and the lamps blew.... sounds like the fuse was fukked... i'll keep you guys posted...

do a search for one brake light fuses breaking. i did discuss this and had the same problem. my spoiler wire was pulling too hard or something and causing the brake lights to blow which in return would _not_ allow me to shift out of park

It is your brake light fuse is out. The car will not move out of park for safety reasons. You can take your car out of park by sticking your key in that little hole next to your shifter and turning your key, it happened to me the other night at a party it sucked!!!

I did the manual release in order to drive, it worked fine for the next day, however, the manual reads "your car is developing a problem" if you have to use that release. Therefore, I took the car to the dealer, he informed me that there was a bunk relay from the brake to the shift. Essentially, the car sends a signal to the shifter that you are applying your foot to the brake, that signal was not being transmitted b/c of the relay problem. SO they are fixing it today. I also asked that in addition, they examine the fuses to the brake lights. (three were out & they replaced them b/c i asked that they do so) However, if the fuses were out, then the lights may be fine... I'll have to see what line of crap they give me today when i pick it up... it was only 130 or so to correct the problem, so i am fine with that.... however, I am paying for my own rental (ghey)!!!
