I knew I would lose but what the hell. I pull up next to a red Lightning and ask the guy if he wants to go...he does. The light turns green and he takes off like a bat out of hell, and beats me by 2 to 3 cars to 60. So we try it again this time from a 20 roll. The funny thing about it is he lets me go first. I lead til about 60 and he walks me like a dog. BTW at what speed do Lightnings run out of steam? I thought I would fare better from a roll. To top it off I had my girlfriend in the car and she couldn't believe I had just got beaten by a truck. I tried to explain to her it was no ordinary truck, but she just laughed at me and told me to quit making excuses. Bottomline if you are riding in your car with your girl and see a Lightning pull next to you... save yourself the embarrassment and don't race it.

 

Lightnings will run about 130MPH. Dont mess with em. I saw one yesterday in front of me at a stop light next to a camaro Z28 and he blew the doors off of his ass. They run a 5.4-5.5 0-60 and our stock is what, 6.5? Ill pass.
BTW, if you pull up next to a GMC Syclone (late 80's early 90's S10 looking thing), back off. He will eat your lunch too.

Lightnings are fast. They will run high 13's consistantly. They won't run out of gas until about 80 or so. Don't feel so bad. I've seen '01 camaro w/ vette engine, slp exhaust and hurst shifter get spanked. Moveover, i've seen e36 M3's get walked so don't feel so bad. They have HUGE engines plus they are supercharged.

i wanted to get a lightning.....except i wasn't plausible for a 36grand pickup truck......even though they're fuckin amazing.....and i really wouldn't mind racing though..i like losing to ridiculous cars....i raced a 360 modena and just got embarassed but it was fun and im' still on my quest for a z06

 

'01 Camaros and Firebirds use a derivative of the Corvette engine, hence the term LS-1 F-Body... don't fool yourself, they are detuned but they make 300-315 rear-wheel horsepower.

You'll be hardpressed to find a stock Lightning nowadays. With less than $900 you'll be running low 12's in a Lightning.

 

Right, i know that. However, this is the SS camaro with the upgraded engine that is around 345 HP.

 

An SS or WS6 is only worth 5-10 hp over a normal LS1. It's still not really a "Vette engine" as the heads/intake on the vette are still different than the upgaded F-Bodies.

 

Some guy in my school w/ a lightning claims he can take the current vettes. They are fast but theres no way they are that fast.

Does he mean the z06???? I'm not sure about stock v. stock that the lightning over the z06 but like somebody said a pull upgrade and the z06 will be left in the dust.

 

Lightnings run a 0-60 in 5.4-5.6. Normal vettes run them in 4.8-5.0. Z06 is 4.4-4.6. With an upgrade they could hang with and maybe beat a normal vette. But I dont think there is anyway that they could be a Z06, unless you fork over another 10g in upgrades.

I retract my statement. 1k in upgrades and the z06 and lightning will be VERY close i say even destroy the z06. The lightning will run 12's w/o a problem.

would all that make a 1sec difference in 0-60??? The new ZO6 runs 1/4 miles in 12.6 stock. Lightning ran a 13.26 with all these mods:Chip, mass air, and exhaust. No way.....I saw a Lightning that was modded with filter, chip, and pully at Rt.66 and he was running low 13s all day long. No way is a Lightning gonna beat a Z06 without lots of mods.

The '02 Z06 does 0-60 in 4.04 seconds according to C&D.

 

The Ford Lightning is a Supercharged 5.4L Overhead Cam engine... you guys all seen what a tin can like a Honda Civic with a turbo can do... the same goes for a V8 with forced induction.

You'll need a couple of G's to beat a Z06 off the line, but it's not hard nor impossible to do in a Lightning.

I went up against a Z06 a while back in my '01 Mustang GT and let me tell you... it was like I was parked on the side of the street as this sucker went by me... I felt foolish, but seeing that beast roll by me with such ease made my spine tingle in joy... that's exactly what I want a $50K American Sports car to do to someone like myself

Umm as far as the F-150 Lightnings go, if you spend $2K in mods you can make that thing run high 4s which makes it a Vette competior
