stock sound system and loudness

Hey guys. Want to apologize ahead of time for not searching and should be in the audio forum (very limited to what I can do on my phone) but...this has been bugging me for a while.
Is it me or the stock bose system very low on volume and the sub doesn't really hit hard? My sister has a bose system in her miata and that thing rocks. Is there some way to tweek the stock amp? And if so..where the heck is that amp? Haha. Again sorry for not searching, my phone is limited for the web

First there is no sub in the stock in the Acura CL, second the amp is on the passenger side kick panel in the trunk behind the plastic trim on the fender well. Lastly the Bose system sucks, scrap the whole thing and go after market I went 100% infinity and couldn't be more happy with my system now.

Hey that's for the info. There's someone selling their kappas 63.7i's in the bm. I wonder if those are good and if I should jump on those? I just need something louder for now

I think I have those in the rear for 6x9's. Def. louder.

I would recommend any of the other models...just not the Perfect 6.1's if your ears are sensitive to the highs.

They are very bright speakers!

Some like them...but from a lot of car audio installers...they are too bright for the soundstage in the CL.

If you did your research and they are a good deal...jump on them.

Well...it isn't that hard...but I know there are tons of automobile subjects I know nothing about.

I would start with Crutchfield if you are a

They have a lot of resources to help guide you and understand some basic concepts.

Do some research because what you should do is replace the front & rear and get a new CD player.

I replaced mine and never looked back.

Actually...what I've done in the past in go to a local audio shop and pretended like I was in the market to buy something.

They will answer all your questions and give you a lot of ideas.

Take that info. and start your search.

For sure...just not Kappa Perfects!

Honestly...ChineseGuyinthe415 you need to go to a stereo shop and listen to different speakers with your own ears.

Our tastes might be different then yours.

Wow great link. Thanks man never knew that site even existed. Damn I got a lot of reading to do before I do my system.

I also think that stock sucks. I feel like it could get much louder than it does without losing sq. But they don't let you to keep from blowing your speakers I guess? Anyway can't wait to get a double din and some nice speakers in my ride.

You will need a new amp if you get new speakers for the CL. The stock CL amp can not run aftermarket speakers.

yep. There is also tons of good info over at www.caraudio.com/forum but beware of the tools over there. Most of the people on that site are noobxcubes right now, and non of the vets give serious answers anymore. lol. DIYMA is the site to be on for audio, lots of good dudes over there that know their shit.

Please read first!

I hate seeing people going and dropping the coin on Infinity's, kenwoods, sonys, Rockford and even alpine sometimes (unless the type X's). Although all these companies (aside sony) make a decent product, you are paying for the name. There can be MUCH better audio equipment had for ALOT less money. Just search around, you'll see exactly what I'm talking about

Check out some companies like:

DLS (www.dls.se)
Hertz (www.hertzaudiovideo.com)
Image Dynamics (www.imagedynamicsusa.com) (The chameleon line kicks ass)
Hybrid Audio
Arc Audio
CDT Audio
Sundown Audio (for amplifiers, Great product great CS)
Stereo Integrity (the new mag sounds like pure...bliss)
OZ audio (discontinued but you can still find some good stuff)
Diamond Audio
FI car audio
Zapco (gooood stuff right there)

These are just a few off the top of my head. But do some searching on DIY, im sure you'll find some good stuff. Check out the classifieds too, most stuff sold on there is normally in good shape!

Good luck!

Yeah...I've dealt with Image Dynamics before and are somewhat familiar with a few of the others.

There is a lot of good stuff out there that isn't "popular/mainstream"

If you really got some dough...maybe look into Focal....but they will run ya checkbook for a ride.

I already had some of the stuff laying around so I kept it together with Infiniti.

I hate having mismatched stuff...like 20 types of silverware...

Never really had a problem with the stock system as long as I had a sub added. I just keep the bass all the way down on the interior speakers and turn the bass up on the sub. Sounds fine and gets extremely loud.

But since I am an audiophile I will be upgrading

Lol.

My old system in my durango consisted of plenty of mismatched stuff.

Vifa tweets
ID OEM mids
JBL tweeter amp, ARC audio Midwoofer amp, 2 sundown sub amps
Alpine 9887 and 2 15" OZ matrix elites.

Talk about mismatched

I think it's hard for the novice audiophile to match different brands.

Not everybody knows how one speaker or tweeter will complement the other components.

full kappa system here and it sucks without bass. Since the kappas are so bright i would recommend running a sub. im running the 692.9i in the rear and i think even though they are 3 way the sub part of it sounds nasty at high volume. btw im running these off of a pioneer AVH-4000DVD has a built in EQ tried messing with it sounds the same. I think if i ran a separate amp for it, it'll sound better. If i had a choice to get a different system probably boston acoustics, phoenix gold, or alpine type x.

Eh, its really not too bad.

Looking at the parameters of a speaker, I can normally tell what will go good with another speaker. lol

For most, a passive component set with 100x2 watts should please their ears.

I'm so picky that I almost HAVE to have a separate crossover for each speaker I use.

I've spent way too much time, money, tweaking, sitting in my car trying to get things perfect, lol. all that stuff.

They still sound f*n bright with a sub.

They are killing my ears...I think I'm loosing hearing when sign waves are in a song.

No more west coast music in my CL.

Well then...

See your experience with systems surpasses a novice.

I'm talking about the guy who has never had a system.

OK OK...not running 2500 watts RMS

I am only running one sub.

I will say that if you really need some bright ass mids...those can stand up over bass because they are so high.

I just can't turn up my volume too loud.

I already made adjustments to the amp, deck, and crossovers.

I think from all the years working in sound editing my ears are very sensitive and my tolerance is low.

yep yep yep. its not so easy to install a system you have to spend time just like posted above to tweak the eq and finding the right speakers plus many many more.

Hifonics brutus

I'd stay away from the past few years lines of Hifonics.

Their OLD school stuff is nice.

If we're talking about the same thing, The BXI series amps are not very good. I did a bench test of the 1206d and got 960w RMS at 1.5% THD (distortion level)

And the sad thing was..that was at 14.4 Volts.

They overrate their amps. You can expect 2-3-400 watts less than what they advertise.

For 200~250 you can get a sundown SAE-1000d and have ~1200+ of clean power. (<1% THD)

Hell, you can even get a used sundown SAZ-1500d for around 275 nowadays. They are rated at 1500w @ 1ohm (<1%THD) but you will see closer to 1800-1900 on good electrical.

yes, your absolutely right. Mismatching components is not a good idea for someone who is just getting into a system.
