Check out the Kenwood Z919. It decodes MP3 directly from a data cd. 150+ songs per CD. Also available with a 6-Disk Changer. Pretty good if you want 60 Hours of uninterupted tunes.

Ken,

You can download free MP3 files from the Internet, burn to a CD, load the changer, and hit the road.......lots more music per CD than buying retail albums.

just use winamp. create a play list and go to prefrences and select the output as DISK WRITER and then specify the directory. then hit play and it will start converting. the faster your pc the faster it will convert. or if you have like easy cd-creator or nero or cdrwin just drag and drop your mp3'z to your burnlist and it will convert it for you. which saves alot of time. and yes wav and cdformat is the same.

The wavs still have to be burned into a CD-R, correct? I don't think CD-RW will work.

Our cd players don't like CD-RW cds, they kinda get stuck so don't try it. Now CD-Rs on the other hand work great.

You can always go here www.mp3.com/hardware and get a portable that will play CD media and have it run through your tape player or something of that sort. I am working on a way to have it run along with my amp once I get it installed for my mids.

Last count I have 6200...over 35GB worth. With 700 MB of music (~120 songs), MP3 data CDs are great at the office for continuous music without repetition.

BTW: Wav and CD audio are not exactly the same thing. If you create a data CD with .wav files on it, that CD will not play in you home/car CD player. Wav files are an uncompressed version of CD Audio and is therefore easily converted digitally on the fly during the Audio CD creation process. It's with the advent of faster CPUs/Harddisks along with software (Easy CD 4, Nero 5, etc) that has enabled the direct conversion of MP3 audio files(and other audio file types) to CD Audio tracks during the CD burn process.

112GB here - gonna have to lose the CD-ROM on my secondary IDE channel if I hit 120GB in order to free up space for another IDE drive... (either that, or just delete some junk!)

I'm glad you guys noticed the Road Warrior stuff. But I'm sorry you misunderstood.

I too burn CDs all the time. I'm out on Nap$$$$ for all my audio and iM$$$ for all my video (for the iPaq and avi's for my divz player).

I asked why would anyone want to put mp3 files on a CD and play them using an mp3 audio player instead of wav files and a regular CD player? Someone mentioned putting thousands of mp3 on a single CD...that's fine for storage but does it make sense to play them from there because
1)it's difficult to search and find particular songs, and
2)you can never spend that much time in the car; certainly not much longer than a 6-disk changer offers, and finally
3)I don't know of an mp3 player that will play the regular CDs, too (do they?). I can do without the tape desk, but regular CDs are here to say for a long time, I'm certain.

P.S. Now that I just got Roadrunner Cable over the weekend, my CD collection is sure to double, even triple. Have you ever tried to create a 10-song CD downloading mp3s from the web at 28.8?

CD-RWs can't go bye-bye cause CD-Rs can only be recorded to once. Duh.

We need both.

To hit your points in order....
1) Well, mp3s of cd quality are still a meg a minute, so you probably won't have > 200 on a single CD. Most new players allow you store songs in separate directories so you can store a bunch of different albums, for example

2) It's still nice to have a zillion songs, so random play has less change of repeats regardless of how often you're out.

3) Combo CD players and mp3 players have been out for a while. My friend has an old one that cost about $80. It looks like a sony discman except it's like 1 inch thick, and you need a sledgehammer to push the buttons down. But it plays mp3s burned onto a cd.

4) Cable modems RULE.

Napster is only gone if you don't know where to look. Hint... The official napster servers are not the only ones.

I would love to be able to have CDs full of mp3s in the 6-disc-changer so I could carry a lot more variety.

I heard we have a CD changer input on our stock head unit, would we be able to connect an MP3 player through here?

Because it sounds good, you can get 10 times more songs on a CD that in Wav format: how's that for starters

Napster is NOT gone. You just have to be more creative in your request. Ask for one word in the title or artist. If you want Steely Dan, try Dan or Steel. You'll be amazed what comes back.

I have a ton of MP3 files as well and I really don't know what format is put on a CD. Never bothered to check. I'm assuming they are wav files. But I can tell you that a burned CD will hold 74 minutes worth of music which is about 16 average songs. They play on all my CD players, old and new. CD-RW is another story.

Actually I still find music there but nothing will download. It says the other users are improperly configured.

I have about 40 gigs of MP3's right now and I have only d/led about 5 songs from Napster. Napster sucks!!! I have downloaded the majority of my MP3's from the newsgroups and the rest from ftps. Then again, being the moderator of a private MP3 board helps.
BTW, I don't think I have anywhere near 5000 songs. Most of my mp3's are 192kb/s. I of course have some at 128, none lower, and a couple cds worth at 320kb/s. Even with all that, I still won't burn MP3's to cd to play. I'll go out and buy the cd because no matter the bitrate, the original cd is still better by far to me. 40 gigs of MP3's, 503 cd's of store bought music, and over 750+ LP's. I love my music.
