The 330ci 5sp model CAN run very low 14s. So dont let the 225HP/214TQ crank numbers fool you. Perspective, they're about as quick as the E36 M3.

As for the automatic, a couple of car rags posted upper 14s with it and we KNOW they cant drive for crap.

Peace.

it is an auto tiptronic....so i dont kno if there will be a big difference as compared to the manual....I dont think auto vs. manual makes that large of a difference....maybe a 1/10 of a sec...what do u think?

well, i live in downtown LA...so a manual, as much as i like it, would be a bitch for me since rush hour traffic is sooooobad....for example, it takes me sometimes up to an hour to go 5 miles....I couldnt handle that agony of shifting every sec....u kno what mean...if i lived in the suburbs, then for sure manual....sometimes we gotta be rationale...a manual would not be very convienient for me....so inconclusion, i feel that an auto is worth it for me...plus i had to pay an extra 2k for it....i mean, u get the best of both worlds, kinda with that ss mode.

CL-S Weight (Myth)

When a manufacturer quotes a curb weight, its generally the base model. The published curb weight for the G35 for instance is for the base model with no power seats, no sunroof, 16 inch wheels etc. When you add all those things I'm sure the weight is easily 150 pounds more. And then guess what? The typical G35 is about the same weight as the CL-S 6 speed (whose curb weight includes all those CL standard items.

modded 330s autos only run about low 15s. So there is a huge difference.

You will win against an auto.

I smoke them all day long with an 01 CL-S , with nothing more than an Aem cai and mufflers . Maybe you should actually floor the pedal when you race . You would be pretty surprised on how fast your car is .

i kno its kinda off topic, but since u mentioned trannys, does lowering of the car void tranny warrantee?...i mean, will they say some shit like, lowered cars put more stress on the transmission or some bull like that??

Two questions:

1) Which part of NY are you in?
2) Do you plan on going to Etown during 2003?

If you answer 'yes' to #2 let me know when.

Peace.

SS isnt that same as a manual. I beileve the gearing is completely different. Not sure if thats 100% true, but i know SS automatics arent the same as manuals. Manual versions have always been faster.

I driven both, and automatics even in the SS mode on BMWs arent nearly as fast as the manuals are. Even magazines have proven this with their times... always the manual is much faster.

All the SS mode does is allows you to control when the shift control solenoids operate. This is the exact same thing as older electronically controlled automatics just without the extra inputs to the PCM to let it know when you want to change gears. It also has a fluid coupling, the torque converter, with no direct connection to the output shaft (excluding the TC lockup at cruise).

Also, as mentioned, the automatics normally have less aggressive gearing.

Due to the fluid coupling and normally more complex design, the auto looses more power through it than a similar manual. Combine this with the less aggressive gearing and there is noticeably less power being put to the ground at a given gear and RPM.

And one final aspect, automatic transmissions normally weigh more, from 60 - 120 Lbs in most cases. This is beginning to change as they have begun making the automatics more compact. But in general, manuals weigh less.

Two answers :
1. I live in Nassau County and I might plan on going to E-town . I just dunno the date everyone is going . Why , do you want your Max to get smoked or your Accord , He He , just playin
2. Lowering the car DOES NOT VOID ANY WARRANTY except for that of a suspension problem , even in that case it's rare and limited .
Also with the 330ci , the automatic may have the SS mode , however that doesn't do anything for your launch like a manual will do . Plus on some cars , autos actually have less hp along with the lower gear ratios in the trans.

What was the advantage ? I don't know , anyways I took a new 4 door G35 by about 1-1+1/2 cars three times in a row . The kid liked having his ass handed to him . Maybe he didn't know how to drive or something? Anyways , Abe , do you still want to buy my exhaust . If so pm me .

Kewl!! Maybe we could do some kinda TL/CL vs Max/Altima event. (Kind of in the spirit Etown's Mustang vs Camaro contests.) Could be a load of fun!!

Yeah, I have the VQ35DE equipped Maxima (2002 model) with 255hp. Outside of my aftermartket front and rear strut bars, I'm still stock. Although, I may have an AEM CAI come Spring 2003.

I'm thinking we should do the race-meet during March 2003, while it's still cool out.

Keep in touch. Ant, are you down??
