Looked everywhere but I cant find the answer.

Anyone know how many amps the stock alternator is on a 01 CL Type S?

Thanks

Not really. The current craw from the electronic transmission is also more so it evens out. It would be an advantage to install the auto alternator on the manual if they're interchangeable though.

How powerful is "powerful"? A cap should be all you need and is usually a cheaper option then upgrading the alternator. Caps are usually a better option functionality wise too as they deal with the power spikes better. Until this car I was running a bit over 4000watts with just 2x 1-farad caps (2200watts with a single 1-farad cap) without any kind of issues (one car had as small as a 80 amp alternator and never had an issue). Now the subs just sit in the closet and I don't think I'll ever put them in another car of mine.

i might end up doing the alternator swap. My interior lights flicker when i bump my sub. 1 10" Solo X powered by a 1200watt kicker amp, and a 2 farad capacitor still not enough juice.

Something isn't running right if that's the case. The factory alternator should be able to handle that kinda power without the help of a cap even.

I know this is an old thread, but this isn't accurate info at all. It's not possible to run a true 4k with stock electrical with a tiny little cap. It would require super caps and even at that your system would still suffer with stock electrical. For the kind of wattage you'll need extra batteries. Caps don't do any good unless they're super caps. This is debatable, but not really. Those cheap Walmart amps that claim 4k wattage aren't actually pushing that. I'm running 3k peak wattage. Used to be stock electrical with optima yellow top battery. My headlights were dimming so bad when the bass hit. 2 amps, one is a 2k monoblock, but it's only pushing 1.2k RMS power and then my second amp is a 1000 watt 4 channel amp pushing the four-door speakers. My little system now has a 320ho alt just to keep it running smoothly. I'm upgrading to a 5k RMS amp soon and it'll require 2-3 extra batteries or a second alt and 1 battery. My point is, you need to know how much power you're running exactly and I promise you you're not going to push 4K with what this guy's talking about it's not possible. For this kind of power and upgraded alternator wouldn't be necessary per se as you could just add batteries, but it would really be better because you'd also be doing the Big 3 with 0 gauge wire from your alt.
