steering wheel leather cracking

steering wheel leather cracking

I have had my car for a little over 20k miles and the leather on my steering wheel is cracking -- what should I do?

This has happened to a few other people on this board, and I believe they were able to get it replaced under the car's warranty. I'd talk to your dealer about it and see what they say.

lets say you have a cracked leather steering wheel, and you are granted a free replacement underwarranty...say you want the BLACKWOOD steering wheel instead, could you just pay the difference in price between the standard leather wheel and the blackwood?? anyone know what that difference is?? ive always wanted that blackwood wheel but not for 500 bucks!!! fuck that!!!! but i mean, if mine was gonna be replaced by the dealer under warranty, maybe an extra 50-100 bucks could get me into the blackwood??? hmm, well, even if it would work, my leather steering wheel is fine....maybe i could run some sandpaper on it or something to help it start cracking!!

Jim I was thinking the same thing. If they give me a hard time about it I am going to create a big stink and take it all the way to the top because I did not buy a 30k car for this.... if they are going to replace it they will probably say it will happen again so Ill just say put the blackwood one on then.

Is it the actual leather part that is peeling or the fake stuff around the center (airbag). My TL and first fen CL peel there. Appparently it is a common problem. The dealer claims it isn't covered under warranty because its wear and tear from our hands.

No, its the actual leather that is on the top and bottom sections of the steering wheel - not the perforated one.
