SRT-4: Update (2.4T 215-hp, 245lb/ft)

Dodge claims this car will be the fastest new car under $20K (likely with the ACR-like tight handling). 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. With specs like these it's easy to see why. Powered by a 2.4L four cylinder turbo putting out 215-hp and 245-lb/ft of torque largely shared with the PT Cruiser Turbo. Equal length driveshafts to deter torque steer, and LSD likely on the way.

While power is close to on par with the WRX (sadly, no AWD for the Dodge), this is one of the loudest bangs for the buck to hit our streets in sometime. The car comes from DC's new in-house performance tuner, PVO, who also developed the new Viper SRT-10 and forthcoming Ram SRT-10.

Ordering starts in November, Production of the first 5000 begins December 9 and will be in showrooms a few weeks after. DC confirmed the MSRP to be set for $19,995, as hyped/promised.

Side note:
At the same time of the release Mopar will release three staged upgrades, 25, 50, and 75hp. Many dealers will finance the upgrades with the car, and rumors abound that Mopar will eventually release 4 and 5 stage upgrades.

The production front end:

stage 3 = 75hp
stage 4 = approx 100 hp
stage 5 = approx 125 hp

stage 5 neon = lightweight, well balanced, approx 340 hp, approx 300 ft lbs of torque....

thats gonna kill so much its insane, and too many kids are gonna have it and fucking kill eachother on the streets....insurance companies will be in the dark because they will be only insuring a 215 hp car (which is friggin plenty for a neon) and wont know about these upgrades....16 year olds with 300 hp cars is a fucking deadly game....

by the time the "16 yr olds" get enough money for a stage 4 or 5 upgrades, they'll prolly be 17 or 18, and hopefully have matured enough to know how to play it safe, and not embarass old guys in porsches....

What's old is new again. Back in the late 80's/early 90's they were turbocharging everything from Shadows and Spirit K-cars to the Caravan.

hmmmmmm, wow, that's a ton of power which i don't think 14 inch wheels will be able to handle. Even with LSD.......

Welp, looks like it's time to start saving for the supercharger

SRT-4 has 17in wheels.....not sure of the size, but wouldn't be surprised if they were wider than the CLs.

Don't be a snob......Neons dominate Auto-X events, this one will do that and be down right fast.

Pretty amazing, can you say the successor to the GLHS(Goes Like Hell Somemore). I think that was a Road & Track description of the Omnis.

I'd like to know about the brakes. I had a 95 Neon, and the brakes sucked. I drove Angeles Crest Hwy(mountains) everyday, and the brakes didn't hold up for squat.

Later,

From another website......

"The vehicle's standard 11-inch disc brakes with upgraded pads assure that SRT-4 can drop from 60-0 mph in less than 120 feet."
