SRS Turned ON

For some odd reason this morning when I woke up and got into my car, the SRS light is on. It's lite red and red usually is bad The light is on the top right hand corner above the fuel meter.

I did a search and couldn't find anything. Does anyone know what it means?

I own a 2001 CL (non type S) with 98,XXX miles. It's on it's 2nd transmission.

It means that there's an issue with your SRS (safety restraint system), so the airbags may not function properly...

Some SRS issues may also be covered under an extended warranty:

I've had that happen before when heavy packages were leaning against the passenger side door. Just a thought.

True, putting a briefcase on the passenger seat or something like that will set it off too...

If its the red SRS light it has nothing to do with the side air bag light or something being in the seat wrong. I would bring it in to the dealer to have diagnosed. It may be one of the issues covered. When that light is on none of the airbags work

disconnect your battery to reset the ecu. if it comes back on, take it somwhere and get a code scanner thrown on it.

With the higher mileage CLs I wouldn't be surprised if the SRS light had anything to do with the Seatbelt Restraint System (those are covered under warranty).

Which reminds me I still need to get mine fixed.

i think thats what i need to do since when my SRS light goes on i can the the seat belt click and there is a tension change in the belt. again it only comes on when the passenger clicks in the seatbelt. i think its the seatbelt buckle sensor.

Some links on resetting the SRS light via the little connector under Drv. dash

Yep, mine just came on today and the following turned it off.

No pending error codes were captured on my scan tool, but the following worked for now:

http://www.geocities.com/myintegra96/srs.html?20078

http://www.geocities.com/myintegra96/SRSResetPics.pdf

http://www.geocities.com/myintegra96/SRSResetTXT.pdf

Humble suggestion:

Try using a couple of small paper clips to stick into the connector. If you use a couple that are slightly bent, you can "make" and "break" a connection with one hand (the other hand can operated the ignition switch). The timing is a bit tricky and if the clips are bent "just so", the connection to SRS connection (2 pins) "made" and "broken" with one hand.

The above presumes that you have the right size paper clip (about 1" long).

The dealer wanted $100 to do the diagnostic.

It had been off (working correctly) for 7 years -- until today

Mine went on, the dealership took care of it under the lifetime seat belt warranty, replaced the seat belt its self and where it clicks in (can't think of the name right now) and I believe a sensor as well.

Bringing this thread back....

My SRS light just came on yesterday, it stays on after car is started and I'm trying to find out whats wrong with it. The previous post gave me hope that the dealer might take care of it. This what happened before that light came on. I move the passenger seat back a little bit, then pressed the lever where it automatically comes forward, clicked it back into position and thats it, I did also go over a very hard bump. Any suggestions I can do, I checked the connectors under the passenger seat..and everything seemed to be connected...I'm going to have somebody sit in the passenger seat and see what happens. Any insight would help, thanks.

BTW I own a 2003 clp

My SRS light came on last year and didn't turn off. Dealer replaced one of those seat bult latching thingamajgs (don't know the correct term) free of charge and it fixed the problem. Basically the car didn't know that I had buckled my seatbelt.

See its kinda odd, my seatbelt light will go away if I buckle my seatbelt, however the SRS light still stays lit

My issue was the same. The seatbelt light goes away after a while regardless if you have your belt buckled.

The SRS system has a way of knowing if the buckle is informing the system of latching or not. This is why when the car beeps when you first turn it on without buckling your belt and stops beeping when you do; however, the light still blinks for a little bit and goes away after a few seconds.

So, if the buckle malfunctions the SRS light is triggered.

Well I have an appointment with the dealer tomorrow. They said that if the SRS light is triggered by the warranty issue its free of charge, if not they want like 110 dollars for a diagnostic fee....crazy....any input?

BTW, I was right, it was the passenger side seatbelt buckle. When i reset it, i can get it to turn back on again by simply buckling in the passenger seatbelt. took care of it last year, replaced for free by a local acura dealer because acura has a lifetime seatbelt warranty.

Try Acura of South Florida which is now relocated in Pines as Acura of Pembroke Pines.

I knew exactly what triggered my SRS light which was seatbelt related so I took the chance even though i knew, i was still pretty hesitant since i didnt want to pay 85 just to know whats wrong without even fixing anything yet.

Had to reschedule my dealer with the appointment. I had a friend sit in the car and had him buckle the seatbelt and I buckled mine. The light for the seat belt went away but the SRS still remained on. The side airbag light stayed off, so I'm hoping its warranty related, so I have to pay, haha. Any suggestions before I reschedule the appointment with the dealer?

Can you reset the light and buckle one seatbelt in at a time to see if that will trigger the light? Right now you are trying to find what will trigger the SRS light to turn on and that will determine your problem.
