Sri Vs. Cai Which Is Better???

I currently have a comptech icebox installed on my car, and i am very pleased with the performance but i am not happy with the sound. i think its too quiet, (thats just my opinion on the icebox dont get pissed off at me 4 sayin that) i was thinkin about sellin my icebox to my friend and getting an intake. i just wanna know what u guys think is better, now remember i live in jersey and for about 5 months out of the year it rains alot so thats why i was leaning towards the SRI could anyine help

1) which is louder
2) which gives more power

I never thought that CAI worked all that great until it got cold here and i felt my intake tube and IM. They where actually cold. I dont know why i never "trusted" them but i am now a believer.

As for power, the CAI will give more since the air it sucks in is more dense and lack of a better word cold. And the SRI will be louder as it is not down in the bumper but right under the hood. Trust me. I'll look for my pic of the sort ram or just short intake that i had on my first gen and post it again.

- short ram is louder
- you won't notice the power difference but cai does more.
- get a bypass valve for the cai if you're paranoid

search for the weapon r secret thread, that's the only short ram intake i think of

i'll tell you what is better. if you looked which intakes are made for your car and then you searched each make/model intake on your own. that will more than answer ALL of your questions.

yea, you should do this with all of your questions and don't just limit your searches within this site, but broaden it to the internet.

You can just about anything if you know how to search for it. And remember, use logic and think about it while you research. You could've probably answered your own answers. That is my advice for the night.

You already have the best intake.

Short ram defeats the "cold air" purpose.

Intake is mainly for performance though. Comptech provides the most power with the stock look. SRI sucks up hot air, while CAI has the possibility of sucking up water, but I wouldnt worry so much about that (not here in SF anyways). CAI is louder though, imo, but not really a good buy when a superior product is already installed.

I have an AEM cold air intake hooked up, it's only LOUD at WOT towards the higher RPMs. I'm not worried about water being sucked up and I have lived in Washington state for 23 years...supposedly it rains here a lot.

to my knowledge.. doesnt a short ram give you more low end power and cold air give you more high end power...

Depends on what car your putting it on, if a car is equiped with a factory ram air type system, like my old Mitsubishi Galant than you will lose low-end torque no matter what, intake systems are mainly used to produce power in the upper range of RPMs. On our CL/TLs though I don't think you lose any low-end since the intake system is just a basic design. Basically, all high-end gains with either CAI or SRI

More power with a cold air intake though

CAI = sucking up outside ambient air = more power than SRI
SRI = sucking hot engine temps = less power than CAI

I agree with the Helmet. You have the best possible intake for the CL. I took out my CAI and replaced it with an Icebox. I didn't care for how loud the AEM was. Why not save the cash, and use it to but exhaust. That will increase the moise factor. Or headers to improve your performance.

I have the Weapon-R Secret Weapon SRI on mine and I would suggest sticking with what you have because it hums too loud and overall it's just not up to snuff on the build and design quality of AEM, CT or Injen. I feel an HP increase over stock but I'm wondering if I'm missing out on the CAI benefits, not only HP, but less UFO humming under the hood. Sounds like I have a vaccum cleaner running under there sometimes depending on how cold/hot the engine is. Maybe Santa will bring me a Icebox or AEM cold air for Xmas if I'm lucky.

That constant droning hum would piss me off.

It does. I'm on my 8th or 9th different configuration with it in hope of quieting it down. Nothing seems to work since the filter resonates off the inner fender and through out the engine bay. I even coated the intake tubing with that spray on rubber insulation that you can use on tool handles and it did nothing. Looks cool but still hums like a mo-fo.

I honestly do not know how people suck water into a CAI. I had an AEM for a long time & it rains a hell of a lot more where I live then CA or NY/NJ & I never had any problem. And I didn't have a bypass valve.
I say keep your Icebox & get an exhaust system for an increase in sound.

I found a way with my AEM. Went through about 3 inches of water. Didn't realize there was a huge sink in the middle. I know....I should have turned around. But sometimes when you're late for an appointment, you don't think rationally.

I never had a problem with the Icebox.

The Icebox is the best, don't change it.

the only person i know of personally who did this was my brother....deep puddle and a low ass srt-4 with a cai. Usually it's not much of an issue even though it rains a lot here.
