squeaks and rattles
Well, Acura #7 for me has a few problems. The first is a question for six speeders only (I think).
In the morning when it is relatively cool, my center council squeaks like a bitch. It chirps, actually. With the black rubber cover slid back, it chirps if I so much as run over a pebble. If I take my right hand and put it in the forward cupholder and make a fist, it stops, completely. I have nothing in either the upper or lower storage compartments that would make this noise. If I slide the rubber cover forward, the chirping is masked but not eliminated.
Sunroof: The sunroof ITSELF creaks as the car goes over uneven pavement, driveway entrances, etc. I know it is the sunroof because if I push up on it, it makes the noise exactly. The dealer has addressed this once, and they say it is "fixed". BS.
Sunroof problem #2 If the inner shade is in the full rear position, that rattles also! If I slide it forward one inch, it goes away, as it does anywhere forward of one inch to fully closed.
I have an appointment at the dealer for Thursday, the 31st, and I would like to print out for them what you guys have found that works. Thanks in advance (rattles drive me nucking futs!)

could not agree more, the rattles sucks... my most recent rattle is that something clicks inside the door pannel (in the area of security light). Its a feeling that something is loosely tightened.
Oh well, give up ... give up...

My dad's 5 year old jeep has fewer rattles than my 5 month old Acura Cl-S6. It is amazing .. good thing the radio is somewhat decent to cover all the rattles ...
The sunroof is going in for the 2nd attempt at quieting .. no hopes it will be resolved though .. just another wasted trip to the dealer.

To quote Donald Sutherland from the DIRTY DOZEN, "there's lots of negative waves here, man." And tmk70, my VP's G35S is in for its 3rd rattle control, the same rattle, "fixed" twice, so far, the car is 6 weeks old.
One car out of seven ain't bad. I'm looking for solutions, not bashing. I know the sunroof (I think) involves application of some tape. Any ideas?

I think the Acura interior, being comprised mainly out of plastic on top of plastic, is prone to rattle and squeek. On the other hand, my 87 Jeep doesn't rattle as much, because most of the plastic is mounted or placed on top of fabric which makes it pretty quiet; however, I still prefer my Acura to my Jeep.

The sunroof issue is fixed with internal greasing and a clear tape around the perimeter of the sunroof opening.
As for rattles, it is more common on all cars. According to an Acura service guy many manufacturers switched to a cheaper plastic pop-in type rivets for interior trim pieces to save time and money within the last 4 years (even cheaper ones than used before). These rivets are more sensitive to hot and cold expansion and contraction and weaker in general. Also you have the issue of joining several materials together that have different properties (leather/vinyl/plastic). He likes to take carpet padding and cramming it in with a thin tool in suspect areas.

Rattle's, yeah well a friend of mind said it best. What do ya expect from a car built in the USA, by Union employees who spend more time, thinking about how to get the company to give them more benefits, as oppose to working and having pride in the work they do.
And before anyone starts, I believe in Unions, it's just that some people give a bad name to benefits vs work ethics.

the main reason i went a bought a brand new car was because i wanted nothing to rattle. every little noise just drives me crazy that a $30k car makes this noise. whether its the sunroof, rear deck, driver door, sunvisor, and every other inch on the car that rattles, just makes me want to get rid of the car. and after i put 3(12) subs in the trunk, shit, i wish i never did that either. fuck bass. now i have to turn up the volume to not hear the fucking rattles and squeeks and shit. this is making me hate my car alot.
didnt know that some of this rattling is under warrnaty to be fixed. im going monday to fix this headache.

I really hope you are joking.
I know of a few people who complain about rattles and such after having lowered the car to the ground and installing a 2500 watt stereo system. Too funny.

That seems to hit the nail on the head for me. Most days, I hear no rattles. In really cold days, I hear rattles.

Oh sh*t, I know what you mean people when you get frustrated with rattles and squeaks....
There are millions of things, some are so tinny that you only hear them once in a while (more like a slight clicking sound when stupid plastic clips....)
yeah, a lot of new cars are like that... they use cheap materials to save costs, and dont think much about noise reduction.... plus those stiff suspensions make it worse....
why can't the engineers relalize that tighter suspension requires better noise reduction design for interior...
i dont think it has to do with US build, my mom's Maxima 2003 rattles as well.... it might be a little less rattle, but its far from being perfect....

Well, my Ford F150 Harley Edition rattles less than my Acura. My 10 year old Miata is still as good as either of the new cars. But I never let a dealer fix a rattle. They cause more than they fix. I've cured the sunroof rattle in my S, and the door rattle in my Ford. The Miata with 120k miles only faintly rattles over rough roads, but its riding on Koni sports, lowered, and it is a sports car so it has a right to bitch a little now and then.
As for unions or no. Personally I think unions suck and are way past their prime. There was a time and place for them but not any more. Some high school educated bone head making 60k or better a year putting parts together is BS. If the car is designed properly with the right parts, a monkey could put together and it would be rattle free.

Well, at least a few people offered suggestions, and "thanks" to them. I find this awfully confusing because this is my second, brand new 2003 CLS6 speed-don't ask, it's a long story. #1 was serial number 10565, whereas my present ride is # 9115. Ergo, they were assembeled fairly close together in terms of time. #1, I never had a rattle issue with, nor its five predecessors. #2 has three rattle issues. Odd. Today, not a peep out of the council, but the sunroof is shimmying all over the place, and the inner cover is rattleing away. I'm still going in to the dealer tomorrow. If they get two out of three fixed, like Jack Nickleson said "and 2 out of 3 ain't bad!"
