Springs or Basslink??
Springs or Basslink??
Help me decide guys. Comptech springs or basslink? I want to do both, but I'm gonna limit myself to one thing. Driving seems to be getting a little bit dull with the CL so I need to enhance by making entertainment better or making the CL more fun to drive. Give me your input!!
Install for the basslink I can do myself. I'll probably pay someone to get the springs on. How much for install?

Well if you get springs then you're gonna have to get shocks and sways too. With install you're looking at over a grand.
And what the hell is a basslink? Like some kinda basstube?
Why not just get a box and a 12>?

What is you driving consist of?
If you spend time in traffic -> basslink.
Open roads - springs.
You can do the comtech springs without sways or shocks. The comptech drop is not enough to warrant new shocks.
Most people add sways with springs. If I had to do just one, springs. They impove appearance and handling.
Plan on installing yourself?

i vote for springs. fvck crappy-ass bass tubes...
I have the Basslink and for <$300 installed it's well worth it.
My next mod is going to be a CAI appx $290 installed (unless I do it)
Third mod would be Sways... probably just over $300 installed.
I am also adding new tires for the summer.

Btw, Comptech springs and sways are all you should do for the first suspension modification. That's around $600 in parts and $150 install, so it's around $750, not $1000.

NOT SHOCKS?
I heard it was best to do all of them at once, due to a lower labor rate?
Also,
What would be the point of just doing springs? I thought that the stock shocks would have to be changed out???
It's Like Bluto said...If you sit in traffic, or you want better sound for your car take the Basslink. but if you are on open roads, or you want the car to be for looks, take the springs.
I personally purchased the Basslink, and was installed in my car, however I did not like the bass on the Basslink, I couldn't hear the base thumping... I guess I was looking for more of a thump. I wanted something that I could feel in my seat, but not a Big bass where people can here from a mile away nor did I want the rattling in the car either. I tried it for a week but went back & had them unisnstall the Basslink and I just purchased a Seperate Amp with a 10" Sub, Much better for my personal taste. I had the salesperson play the basslink in the showroom and it sounded good, it actually sounded like the way I wanted it to sound, but once installed it didn't do anything for me.
Of course everyonce bass opinion is different based on what they like, so don't get me wrong the basslink is a good system if you are not looking for a thump in your seats.
just my .02

Thanks for all your suggestions.
Marioman: Was the basslink really weak? Did you have a nice stereo setup in any previous cars? If so, what was your setup? And what kind of music do you usually listen to?
gmilian: I originally joined the a-cl family with a '98 3.0 a few months ago. Then I got a deal too good to pass up on the 3.2. Hence 1gCL
I'm really leaning towards the springs to add a little more excitement in my driving. But then again, I really miss my system (three 8W6 powered by RF Punch 800 and Kappas all around inside) from my Accord. Such a tough call!!

1gCL: When I tried the Basslink on the CL, I found it to be weak... my opinion was that it felt like the CL was insulated pretty good and you were not able to feel the bass. I was running the Basslink with the stock headunit (Bose radio system)
In my previous cars, I only ran one of those Kenwood Bass tubes with the factory stereo. They were 8" woofer, but it really kicked in my V.W. and you were able to "feel" the bass. I figured once I had the CL that I would put the same Kenwood bass tubes in the trunk and that it would be alright. However after I installed the Bastubes you could not even tell that the bass tubes were on
That's how I reached the conclusion to the basslink, I ran accross it in a car magazine decided to go look at it and it sounded good and the showroom but then it didn't sound good inside the Cl as my previous post explains.
My personal conclusion to the basslink was that the CL was too insulated (It felt like the bass was not getting through to the front of the car) I pulled down the rear center console(where the ski's go through) that made a little positive difference but I didn't want to have that part down on my car the whole time. I like to feel the bass have a gentle rumble through my seat when I connect my woofer.
Like I said before though everyone's bass tolerance or "feel for the bass" is different, But this was my feeling on the basslink. My goal was to achieve a little more bass on the car.

Since I can hardly even tell a car with comptech springs is even lowered, I'd go with the Basslink. At least you'd get something that would make a drastic difference.

remember that location of the basslink is very, very important, the guys that installed mine had to move it a few times before they found the right spot, this makes a world of difference. I think most people have been installing them in the front of the trunk, wrong!, it needs to be in the back left, I'll post pics soon.

If you do springs and sways, you lower the center of gravity, have a slightly sportier ride, and have sharper steering. That's a good start, IMO.
I would put the money towards the suspension upgrades.
I’ve heard BAD thinks about the BASSLINK.
Very boomy so it gives the illusion that it sounds good.
And it’s kind of overpriced for what you get.
Its main advantage is it’s easy to hook up to a system like ours.
It’s hard to explain, but if you’re into great sound I would PASS on it and buy a box w/ dual quality 10’s and a dedicated Amp when the time comes.
It’s not much more money and sounds WAY better.

When they positioned my Basslink they did posiotion it in the correct spot, we tried all over the trunk and left it in the rear left. All the way back on the drivers side. I left it there for a week, but still for MY taste did not like the sound of it.
