spring mounting help

I just installed my h&r oe springs on my koni yellow. I have an issue getting the front springs monunted under the top hat correctly. The spring seems to wide to fit inside the top hat. When I get everything bolted up the spring is very crooked. Has anybody ever had this problem? I had to put the koni on the lower perch to make it a little better but still is a problem. This is causing a ton of front end noise. Am I not reusing something from the stock shocks what is the deal here.

Are you positive you don't have the rears on the font. OEM springs have two different sizes for fronts and back.. but I'm not too familiar with H&R

Surely I have it right the bigger spring in the back. And they are not upside down because they will only sit on.the.perch one way. Thia is really stressing me out because these are the right springs and I have seen others use them.

Is this a common set up? H&R's on Koni's Yellow?

51858-55... They are for the tl and accord. They fit on the lower perch llike they are supposed to but is not fitting in the OEM top mount. I checked the part numbers of the top mount and the tl and accord have tje exact same mount as my cl. So I'm still confused.

I'm going to take the fronts of again tonight and put it on the top perch then try again. I'm going to try a different method. I'll.compress the spring a shit ton leaving almost no pressurevon the hat. Tighten down the hat then start gradually taking the compressers off. I'm pretty sure I already tried thos but ill try again anyways

The bottom bushing is popping out as you can see. Is this assembly correct or am I missing something from the stock shocks?

It's been a while since I worked on a CL, but that assembly doesn't look right. Is there an extra bump stop in there?

no just one short one. The bushing you see above the washer is the bottom strut mount bushing that goes in the bottom of the top mount but it want stay put when i take the spring compressors off.

That's really weird.. Possibly a defective spring? Do all 4 springs do the same thing?

I dont have all the stock stuff anymore it got thrown out somehow I was going off the dumb koni picture instructions. Are you supposed to reuse all the stock stuff? The two fonts are not right the back works fine. Any diy would help maybe hopefully I can figure this out

Did you replace the stock stuff with aftermarket parts? The koni shocks dont come with everything needed.

The pictureshock on the left shows the exact way everything should go.

I had teins coilovers for a while and all.that was needed was the top hats. From the diagram you posted I have the top hat correct. The only thing I don't have is # 15 is that cover really that critical?

From the looks out of the box all I thought I needed was the bump stops and dust boots. But that doesn't effect mounting. I'm pissed wtf this shouldnt be that hard!!! I don't have.#15 and the stock bump stop but I do have a shorter aftermarket one. I don't have the bottom tornado looking things as well. Does that matter? I don't see how it would make the top mount crooked.

Looks like you have parts 7, but are upside down?? And yes, those matter, especially if you dont have them on.

If you take it apart and lay out the parts we can help you put it together right.

Your right that is upside down. I will fix that when I get home from work. I know the bump stop has to be there but that's not going to fix the spring from being crooked?

It very well might be crooked until there is a load on it. There is more pressure on one side than the other due to the way the coil is wound.

Having all the correct pieces in the correct way helps too. Also, if i remember correctly the spring sits in the rubber top hat a specific way as well.

That's the only thing I can think of that will cause the top hat to be crooked. The rubber isolator inside the top hat is grooved to accept the end of the coil. If the end of the coil isn't in the groove of the top hat correctly, the hat will not be straight.

Thanks for the help guys once I saw the rubber bushings were upside down according to the.diagram I flipped them over and it helped a little but once there is load it helps a little. Plus once the springs are settled in that should help as well. There is no grove in tje rubber isolater since they are brand new that could cause this as well. I'll just give it time to break in. No biggie.

But bad news went for a.test drive.... And hahaha my luck backed out of the drive way kinda fast and as soon as I turned the wheel I heard a loud pop. Take into account I just had new axles and wheel bearings installed. The cars passenger side axle is spinning and the driver aide is not. I'm guessing this is cause the limited slip. But the car will not move what so ever. The wheel bearing must be busted because there is grease all over the place! So either defective wheel bearing, axle, or maybe the hub.

Has this happend to anybody before???? All parts are OEM and I'm sure it was all installed correct.

If you heard a pop and are seeing grease everywhere, my guess is the cv boot clamp on your axle has let go. You mentioned the parts are all oem. A while back members on here (myself included) were having the same problem. I guess the clamp on the boot is not being tightened enough at the factory, and are prone to coming loose.
However that didn't keep my car from moving, which makes me think you also have a broken axle.
Definitely not the wheel bearing.

I'm interested to know once you get back on the road how you like the Koni/H&R suspension. I was considering this setup as I've been lowered on coils for years and I'm starting to get tired of the ride quality.

Also one thing I noticed concerning the parts diagram breakdown. You said you don't have number 16, and you wont. That part does not apply to our type-s. It fits the base model Cl. But Acura uses the same photo for both cars.

You were right about the boot coming off and the.axle being broke. Took the car apart myself in the garage. Axle was snapped in half at the cv joint and the grease was coming from the boot. I thought it was something else since it was a brand new OEM axle. Wheel bearing and hub where fine. Luckily the local dealership took the broken axle and gave me New axle for free under warranty no questions. I bought the axle on acuraoemparts.com.

As for the h&r koni setup, the konis are simply amazing and can be super stiff or super soft with the easy adjustment knob on the top of them. I have them less than half turn on tje front and about a quarter turn on the back. One full turn was really stiff i cant imagine what full stiff is like. It handles way better than the tein coilovers and also sits about an inch higher now. The car has way less body roll now a well which is amazing because it is.sitting up higher and stock swaybars. Coilovers were crap compared to the strut spring combo. I guess you really gotta pay for coilovers to feel nice.
