Acura Announces RL A-SPEC Package At SEMA
Las Vegas 11/02/2004 --
Acura today unveiled an A-SPEC performance package for its RL luxury performance sedan at the 2004 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) trade show in Las Vegas. It will go on sale in the spring of 2005 at Acura dealers nationwide.
The all-new Acura RL, which went on sale last month, features a bold new design, a powerful 300-horsepower engine, the SH-AWD all-wheel drive system and an assortment of leading-edge technology including a real time traffic information system. The RL A-SPEC package enhances the already crisp handling and aggressive styling with a track-tuned suspension package that lowers the car by approximately 3/4 inch, 18-inch alloy wheels equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires, an underbody kit, and a deck lid spoiler. The RL A-SPEC kit will be priced at approximately $5,500 plus dealer installation and covered under a factory warranty.
In addition to the A-SPEC equipped RL, Acura featured an assortment of high performance models by import tuners and racing companies. Making their debut at SEMA were
two unique versions of Acura's hot-selling TSX sports sedan. The Comptech TSX, supercharges the 2.4-liter TSX engine and adds a cold air intake, plus a stainless header and exhaust system to increase horsepower from 200 to 240. Comptech springs, a rear sway bar and 18-inch tires increase handling precision while lending an even more aggressive look. The second TSX on display was the RealTime Racing TSX racecar driven by Pierre Kleinubing on the 204 SCCA Pro Racing SPEED World Challenge circuit.
Tuner icon RJ DeVera debuted his own interpretation of a high performance Acura TL performance luxury sedan. DeVera, who showcased a modified Honda Accord at last year's SEMA, utilized a combination of RO_JA and other aftermarket accessories with Acura A-SPEC parts to create a car aimed squarely at today's enthusiast buyer. It features an A-SPEC suspension, a custom RO_JA body kit, and a Comptech supercharger.
Also appearing in the Acura booth was a heavily modified Acura NSX supercar customized by Super Street Magazine and XMOS RC Racing. Featured on the October cover, this NSX was offered as first prize in the 2004 XMODS XRL National Tournament. It features over $30,000 in modifications from Volk, Rotora, Taitec and others.

yippie, another WAY overpriced appearance package from acura...great....
the A-spec routine is geting old...its such a waste of money, and offers absolutely nothing in terms of performance...additionally, you wanna talk about depreciation, youd NEVER regain a red cent of that 5,500 bucks on resale or trade in, its about as big of a loss as navigation systems, shit like that never comes into play with resale values...
let me know when acura gets some balls and offers a TRUE performance package...something that actually does more than bolt up some plastic trim, wheels and a spoiler.

Got to agree with Jim on this one.
Also the target market for the RL ain't twenty something or even 30 something year olds. For the people who are gonna be buying the RL i cant' see them caring about a $5.5k option that lowers the car and gives it some more aggressive rubber.
Glad to hear the TSX is getting some help from Comptech in the power department.

I had seen the pics over at A-TSX.
I wanted to see the pics of the SEMA RL A-Spec, is it the same one (color)?
I agree the a-spec line has a hint of BS to it. But at least Acura is trying, its half-assed, but they are trying. :sigh:

A-SPEC for the RL? WTF????????
How utterly rediculous. The CL Type S coupe couldn't even get a bodykit but the RL, a competitor to the LS430 etc., gets a hoopty-package? This is supposed to be a luxury sedan, no?
Am I on the right planet?

The TSX doesn't need to be made crazy fast though, its already .
Especially on the inside with the Navi.

I agree!
A-Spec
But,
TYPE R/TYPE S
Why get rid of the Type S nomenclature for A-Spec? Poor.

Sorry, but every other web site I visit I CAN POST PICTURES BUT NOT THIS ONE ! I don't want to mention the other site and get banned from this site........We know how sensitive the owners are (Moderators)......
I agree that Acura has done it again by marketing a sports Luxuary car to yuppies that don't give a rats ass about performance stuff.......I just don't get it !
I looked at the RL VERY closely. Engine department has NO room for mods, absolutely NONE (purposely done). I looks like a riced up Accord. They took the classiness out of it. I know of few yuppies that can afford 55K and or have any interest in spirited driving......I think the recent differential issue was due to LACK OF SERVICE guys servicing the car before it ready for sale. Its called TQI which is often done half ass !

It looks OK, but jesus ..
when is acura gonna learn. NO ONE IS GONNA SPEND 5500$ PLUS INSTALL LABOR FOR SOME WHEELS AND BOLT ON URETHANE. A-spec is a load of crap. I dont see this as an "upgrade", its just for appearance.
AMG, M, S and RS, now THOSE are friggin performance packages ..
No one will ever accuse an M3, M5, SL55 or RS4 being just looks.

Well for the past few years the RL has looked like a poser in the luxury market... The Legend made Acura a testement to quality car engineering for it's time and the new RL looks like it's kicking up a notch!
I mean cmon...
300 HP (still no V8 )
AWD
Pimped out electoncs
Too bad the A-Crap could have a bolt on supercharger or at the very least some nice aftermarket exhaust.
Shit like the Sema CL makes you go but it is too sad that they can't capitalize on what are clear market indicators.
Car buyers want Acura to step it up a notch, performance wise, and this fuels the itch quite nicely......... For the time.
I think the A-Spec kit makes the RL look like the old 99-01 TL model (the good model
)

CLS 6MT Navi
All the Aucras now have nice lip spoilers and all we got was the high-flying wing spoiler, boo. Pricing on this A-spec stuff is a joke. What bozo is gonna spend that for an Acura made in US, I assume.
My CLS is great cost me about a 1/3 of that.
