Spark Plug Gap-What is BEST?
Spark Plug Gap-What is BEST?
Looking through the CLS manual about spark plug gap, it states that for new it sould be .04" (1.1mm) . But my friend told me that in the HELMS manual it states that the gap should be 'between' .039-.043.
So my question is what is the benifit of having a smaller gap compared to one that is larger?

a) Spark has trouble jumping the gap and you get miss fires (better ignition will cure that)
b) Spark get's blown out (the case with applications with boost). Then you usually have to lower the gap to ensure no misfires.

.43 would be good. Go with what the manual says. I would also check the spark plug manufacturer website.

use the factory recommended plugs and DO NOT GAP them, they already come gapped. you can damage the electrode tips if you gap them. Plugs in our cars are rated for 120K miles so you should be fine. I pulled mine at 90K and they were still pristine but I changed them anyways. Did not notice any difference in how the car ran. I am now at 138K
Yes, as stated above, do NOT try to gap them. You can carefully check that they are the correct gap but they should already be there.
