Spanked like a bitch by a riced Del Sol
I know, pretty pathetic right? Plus, I was messin' with him. When I first got my CL, I wanted to see what it could do. I was ridin' next to this kid in a Del Sol at about 65-70 on the expressway. I kept jumpin ahead and falling back. I heard his engine rev (along with about half of the city) because of his "tricked out" exhaust. I floored it. He downshifted, I stayed in 5th. He beat my ass, I was pretty embarassed.
I would venture to say that if I'd used the SS I would've taken him, but I was overconfident. Oh well, live and learn.

WHAT THE FUCK???
U have automatic and u floored it and there was no downshift?
does ur car only have 1 gear or something?????
because once u "FLOORED" it , there MUST be a downshift unless u have stick, which u dont.

FYI.. if u lost to him when u floored it then it wouldnt make any difference if u used SS or not...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but when you floor it in an automatic, the car doesn't downshift, it goes into the "final" or "passing" gear.
Also, I don't know about your car, but there's a significant power gain when I drop into third as opposed to when I just floor it in 5th.

My original point was thatI didn't downshift Maybe I could've worded it more effectively. Had I downshifted to third, instead of allowing the car to downshift on its own to fourth, I believe that I would've beaten a small four cylinder in the higher end.
I hope this clears up any confusion from my original post.

The car doesn't downshift as far or the same if you leave it in D5. I dont know why or what it does or doesn't do but there is a difference. I'll usually push it into 3rd, or just put it in D4 so it won't go into 5th at all.

if you were going 65-70 in D5 and you floored it, it should shift in to 3rd.

Alright guys, I'm sorry I started this thread at all. My point was that I was very surprised that he got me at all. His spoiler looked like it weighed as much as my whole damn car. <---Exaggeration
I mean, I wouldn't expect a Del Sol to touch our cars, especially at highway speeds, so I must have done something wrong. I was trying to speculate as to what that might be.
The car just looked and sounded like a rice-boy car. You know what I mean, earth shaking exhaust, mile-high spoiler, neon wiper-fluid things, with the crappy purple stock paintjob. Normally I eat Civics, but usually I'm shifting manually so I thought thats what it might be. I could be wrong, maybe he just spent way to much money on his car with very little resale value and it was actually really fast.

The normal Del Slow shouldn't be able to touch a CL-P, much less a CL-S. But who knows what he had done to it? Anything from NOS to a supercharger.
However, there was a VTEC Del Sol that made 160HP and weighed 2300-2500lbs, I believe that's the B16 engine.
I've seen numbers on them at about 7.4 seconds 0-60 and 15.8 through the quarter mile. The TL/CL should still be able to beat it, but even minor performance upgrades to the Del Sol (the VTEC model with 160hp) would mean bad news for the TL/CL.
That said, I'll take my TL-P over ANY Civic based anything ever made.
