son of a... cv joints *pics
stupid car... damn it, i thought i had narrowed my problem down to a blown shock... however i took the wheels off and got the right front shock off and was compressing it and nothing was wrong, so i go back and look and...
does this look like a broken cv joint??? there is grease all over and it pops and clunks loudly when i turn and sometimes going straight, over any bumps at all....
would it be better to put the stock shocks back on??? or just raise upthe coilovers..
and is it hard to replace the cv joint? could i do it myself if i did the suspension already?
thanks

If it's clicking and poping, it needs to be replaced (the joint :blaze: ). Problem will be trying to find out which joint went bad, left, right, inboard or outboard? Any tips anyone?

I had this problem on my 88 Accord. If you can do it your self you could probably save about $100. I think the joint and the boot cost all together from Autozone ~130. A local shop in town that specializes in Hondas was going to charge me $280.
Could be more expensive for the CL though.

Yep...happend to me on an old car of mine. But being broke as I was I let it go too long. Got worse and worse in a very short period of time. Had to borrow money from the parents to get it fixed.

Don't think Acura would warranty it since you modified the suspension & in effect killed any warranty on the suspension. Might be just a case of the grease in the boot leaking out & there's not enough to lube the joint. My drivers side boot on my 6 speed was leaking & I had grease all over the place. I caught it before anything bad happend. It was also before my drop so Acura warrantied it. I'd get a new boot first & some grease & see what that does.

I've had FWD Hondas since 89. If the CV boot spits and grease spills out but there's no clicking/popping, all that needs to be changed are the boots and have them repacked with grease. This also applies to light clicking/popping (i.e. intermittent and not obtrusive). However when we're talkin' loud and consistent clicking/popping, you'll be needing new axles and CV boots.

It's obvious there is some kind of grease on the boot, but usually when you get a ruptured boot there is a TON of grease all over the place. I had to replace a boot on my CL once already. Cost me $30 for all the parts and a couple hours labor. You'll need some kind of slide hammer if I remember correctly. It's hard to say without actually seeing it...but that boot doesn't look bad to me. Again..if it were bad there would be grease ALL OVER the place under there. Good luck.

I am guessing that the clicking and clunking sound you're hearing is the joint itself. The boot itself doesn't look ripped and only occurs at the end. Sounds like you have a loose if not damaged bearing within the joint itself and its just banging and rubbing against the other bearings inside the joint (3 bearings altogether, I think). As for the boot, its doesn't look ripped and only looks like its leaking from the clamped end. Fixing the bearing and then re-clamping the boot should fix your problems.
EDIT:
I suggest having it fixed by a professional. You actually need a specialty tool to re-clamp that boot tight enough. And the job is actually quite difficult. I say save yourself some aggravation and risk of messing it up more and get it done at a shop.
