Someone talk me out of doing it!

i started drooling once i saw it
2003 Acura CL-S 6MT w/ Navi
Anthracite

my perfect combo.

i got a price of $29,639 for the car
and a trade-in value of $14,000 for my 2001 CLS w/ Navi @52,000 miles (considering i SWAP the new '03 stock wheels/tires to put on my '01)

that leaves a bal of $15,639 putting me into the $375-385p/mo range w/ $5,000 down @ 36mo or $330-$340p/mo w/ $0 down @ 60mo.

should i even do it? seems like a good deal.
i have no car payments so why should i start them up again?

argh....
this is my LAST CHANCE to get that car... i doubt i'd find that car again new with that exact combo....

you should be able to pick up a slightly used one of those for MUCH less...shop around...but I'd recommend something with more of a future than ours....

who cares if it's discontinued? If it's the car you want, at a good price ($1k off of invoice), go for it! The 6MT was discontinued for business reasons, not for anything mechanical.

A bunch of folks here have switched out 5AT CL-S cars for the 6MT, and I have yet to hear any regret. Others have swapped out for other cars and been happy as well - but they tend to pay closer to sticker price than you will on a CLS.

Good luck!

Moses... Why do you want to make the switch? For the sake of having a NEW car? Tranny reasons? New car smell?

Do you want to assume 15K of debt at your age? Do you want to be on the hook for monthly payments? Insurance going to go up?

I'm not saying don't do it... It's a GREAT car. But damn man... Provide some GOOD reason why you want to do this. If it's just because "you want to", don't do it! Save the money, wait a few years and get something then.

You'll be paying on it for a minimum of three years... And don't forget the depreciation... 14K for your car. That should tell you something...

Dude, atleast drive down to Dover, DE & let me hook you up with the guy that sold me mine for $26,900. They were going to find me a Navi for $28,900.

It's worth the ride.

Hell, they're selling 03 TLS's w/out Navi for a flat $28K.

I won't talk you out of it cuz you'd be getting one sweet ass car. However that price is a bit high if you can get them down a bit i'd see no reason not to do it.

funny u mention it. ya know what sold me tho?

the damn new car smell!

just the feel and look of a new car drove me nuts....

even w all the talk about the new 04 TL 6MT i truly forgot about it.
that is one sweet car and def a sweet four-door car i can see myself in. i love 2 doors, but its fuckin fine looking....
the tranny issues have just left a bad taste in my mouth about acura. i hope they've brushed up their QC issues.

yeah i'd love to get a RWD coupe, but all the ones i like are borderline costly. my max is maybe $35k OTD.

but like mantis said. i'm taking a $15k hit on essentially the same car with a different tranny....

hmm.... i wanna go to the subaru and mitsu dealers tommorrow...
the new car itch hasn't gone away just yet....

Moses,
Its a great car, do it - have HOA take the money directly from your account every month so you don't think about it, and just be done with it...The CL-S6 is a rare car

If I had the opportunity to buy now, no more than 30K w/navi out the door.
That means, tax, tag, titles, and all the dealer crap already included. 2.9% APR and 0 down (do I ask for too much?)

You are already loosing a crapload in the trade in. If you have the money and/or u r willing to commit on 36 to 60 month loan payment, do so.

Why dont you get a used one for less anyways?

Or why dont you wait until your car is 4 years old? The depreciation line starts to flatten the curve after the 48 months.

damn $30k OTD u guys say?
that seems like a pretty unrealistic price, no?

they "claimed" they were giving me the car at $1k below invoice in lieu of a factory to dealer rebate.

sure, but they are giving you less than 50% of the original value of your trade in. That doesnt seem right. Dude your car is fine until the 100K, why loose money now? Save for the near future and get something newer. Use the down payment + extra to buy a condo and 2 years after make a home equity loan, buy a car and deduct from your taxes.

But, as I said, if you have the money to spend, and are willing to commit for a new loan, and take a big cut in your trade in, sure. That makes you happy? Do it. Nothing better than that.

I am just giving opinions.

Damn Moses
I got the new car itch from my father when I was 16. I'm now 25 and I have had my way with 14 cars. Nonw of which I wrecked, just got tired of. Now listen. I got my 03 CL in July. I really love it, but the tranny is sluggish and sloppy.
I got a TSX loaner yesterday and really liked it. I am just not sure if that was because ti was just new or not.
But here is how I see thing.

Some people smoke it....
Some people sniff it....
Some people drink it....
Me, I drive it.... Thats my drug. And when you have an addiction, especially cas, its so hard to scratch it and feel satisified. I know. I am doomed for a life of poverty and car payments. But at least I will *bling* all the way there........

Till Thursday...

I would do it. Not for $29K though. I'd at least try to get it to $28K, or more $$ for the trade.

I would do it if you can get some more for the trade and about 27900 plus TTL. I did it and dont regret the change from the 01 to the03 6spd.
