Sold!

hey guys, i sold my Acura.

Although i greatly missed it, i lost 1100 including tax, and i gained 500 excluding tax, but including the remote start and tires, i lost 2200 but including my gain i lost 1700.

Owned the car for 8.2 months. Loved it but hated the transmission problem ,i bought the car cuz it was an acura, a HONDA... to my dissappointment, if you guys dont remember, 7 days later...my tranny died.

I got a new tranny from Acura, but the fact that it will die again, really made me think, i paid for reliability but got squat.

Now I KNOW WHAT YOUR ALL thinking... its just a transmission everything else is damn reliable... but everything else doesnt cost 3952.

So anyhow, i sold it... i enjoyed driving it.. but now its time for a BMW 528I.

I got news for you buddy I have a 1998 BMW 528i and I have already replaced the tranny at 120,000 miles. But if you think that you spent a lot of $ on the Acura you better open up your wallet when you get your Beemer cause everything cost more. Good Luck

Wow, if the bad tranny scared you away I don't think you'd be happy with a BMW unless it has full warranty, and even then you will have to spend more time getting repairs than with any Acura, IMO. I'd stay with Jp. but do more research.

Sorry about your bad luck with the CLS. My 03 CLS 6MT has been very reliable, actually, both of them. I had a white 6MT one before this one.
I guess I can't recommend you a car cause I don't like automatics personally, I think GM makes better auto trannies than Honda puts in their cars. LExus are kinda boring to me but reliable. good luck.

Get a TL over those Lexus you mention IMO.

Lexus will definately be reliable. BMW's are hit or miss. A friend of mine had 3 of them over the years. Her 528 went from NO maintainance costs to a money pit in the blink of an eye.

I traded in my CLs for an Infiniti I35. Very reliable. Not as much fun to drive but it is a solid sedan. How about that or a G35 sedan?

i really don't think you are in any better of a situation with that E39. along with mechanical problems you'll now have electrical problems too.

best of luck to ya!

Define Best.

BMW is the Ultimate Driving Machine - that has nothing to do with reliability. Their high maintenance expense is legendary.

From a reliability standpoint, Honda is head and shoulders over BMW.

I have to keep a car till i get out of med school, either car i get will hopefully have an extended warranty... NOW, as far as the TL goes, my budget is 10k, and i just dont want to deal with such a main component like the tranny.

I chose 5 series because it has 5 of 5 star crash test ratings in ALL areas, not to scare you or anything but I35 scored poor in the feet area, and i like my feet. ( just in case GOD forbid you get into an accident i just wouldnt want to end up without feet).

G35 is not in my budget.. this is what ive looked at so far

2001 Es300 (my take, it feels so bland and plain power is good for that type of car, ride is amazing).

2000 BMW 528I (power is not all that great, however the feeling of solidity is TRULY present fairly comfy, somewhat spacious.)

2002 Acura TLS (Love it, hate the tranny)

2004 TL LOVE IT cant afford it.

2002 Maxima (i like my feet)

1999 GS300 Bulky.

2002 Honda Accord sedan( really not very good looking)

BMW 3 series ( To small, auto trans failure)

Lincoln LS (feels like my grandpas car)

insurance

Acura insurance 285 ok full coverage 25/50/25

BMW 5 series 161 a month 100/300/100

any other ideas suggestions?

no no absolutley not, the reason i chose bmw is because it feels very solid when i drive, the acura felt very nice when i drove to, but i am also looking for a little bit more luxury a better ride without it being mushy like the ES300thats all.

Ha, you are the retard. Why don't you compare 2 cars in the same price bracket.

TL=35,000
BMW=50,000
RL=45,000

Its great to hear someones logic without any reason for backing it up....

I hate to burst your bubble, but for $10,000, You aren't going to find a car that does everything that you are looking for. At the price range you are looking at, you will have to compromise in certain aspects.

You might find a fun car, but reliability is an issue.
You might find a reliable car, but it is no fun to drive.

You can only be picky to a certain extent when you are only dropping 10K on a car.

What about a manual 3 series? Don't know how to drive stick? And if you're so concerned about safety and reliability, how could you not consider a Volvo? I would get a sleeper V80 turbo wagon and slam it.

LOL, i know how to drive stick, i upgraded from a 2003 GTS eclipse after driving stick for 2 years, and working 80 miles away one way, thats why i despise stick

anyhow, i considered the volvo, but it has horrible resale value, its also owned by ford, and IIHS didnt rate it that well in safety, i saw pics.

It doesnt have automatic climate control, its a 5 cylinder, im not familiar with that so i dont think i can work on it, and did i mention ford owns volvo, I ABSOLUTLEY HATE FORD, like its unbearable, the quality i dont even wanna talk about ford.

i was thinking that 3 series is kinda small and its "near luxury" i would like full luxury, im gunna have to pay 9% tax on the BMW...damn luxury tax.

How about a 1st gen 3.5RL. No major issues to speak of as far as know. Rides like a dream and all the amenities are there. You could probobly find one in your price range. It might have higher miles but who cares, it'll run forever. Just check carsoup.

I don't know what insurance company quoted you but I don't think it was accurate because I know the Bimmer would be the same or more for the same coverages not lower with higher coverages. I think that was a mistake. I sell insurance and have both of these vehicles.

If it's not about a CL, it can't stay here...

If you need opinions on a CL fine, but threads soliciting opinion on any other car need to be posted in car talk: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-talk-5/
