so my other headlight went out now!...help?

Ok, so I put up a post a bit ago about my one headlamp going out (the HID), and now the other one is out too!

Just went out about a day ago, it went out...came back on...then went out for good. So no more night driving for me.

So this is a ballast problem correct? I'm just going to buy all new bulbs and ballasts anyways...but is this a common problem with OEM ballasts? (I'm not going to buy OEM replacements)

I had just recently cleared my headlights, could this have anything to do with the problem? I made sure they were sealed up really well too....

if one side goes out, the other is not far behind. you can try switching out the bulbs to confirm that its the ballast or if its the bulb.

well... at least HID systems are CHEAP now!

now you'll have to decide what Kelvin rating you want... what a tuffy

and an OEM ballast is as much as a full HID setup with lights and install. so at least u can look at it that way.

I'd see it from the point of...,"oh now I can get a whole new headlight system and not have to worry about matching my old OEM ballast with a new aftermarket one."

It's probably easier to just buy the whole kit... though I haven't tampered with the lights on this car, I could only imagine it shouldn't be anything too strenuous.

^ Definitely the most helpful thread regarding headlights for our cars. I had the same issue as you and just bought my 3rd used ballast 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a chance to install the newest one yet, but the others were faulty. I spent much more doing it that way then just doing a conversion. Now my other one is going out, too! IMHO, either spring for brand new OEMs or just do a conversion. Good luck!

You probably don't have a high enough post count to post a new thread yet. Otherwise, the "New Thread" button is on the top left just above the Stickies. Welcome!

the bulbs are proably not necessary, cause i did one mine with a new ballest and it is fine (no bulb), so it should be only like $400, but hey at least you can just do both at the same (even if it is multiply times)

wow you guys must have crappy luck, I still have the original ballasts that came with my car back in 02 and have yet to have any problems with them.

I would change the bulb first before order any type of shit, start simple then get complex.

It saves money

mine is a 03 with 100K and the previous owner drove ALOT at night too so that matters some too, also the bulbs are NOT cheap for quality, local import parts store (not dealer, they are like $135) still want $100 per bulb

I have a feeling those who have aftermarket suspension and or bigger wheels (lower profile tires) will have this ballast and light problem more than the rest.

Simply because the car will B taking bumps harder which will wear out certain components faster than they would normally.

That could be a cause as well. I've been rollin on 19's goin for my second season now and running stock ballasts with new bulbs. It seems to just be an inherent problem with our car. Like the trans, and the brakes...lol.

It wasn't the bulbs, it was the ballasts. The OEMs are like $350 + tax, each.

Supposedly, it has to do with water getting in the ballasts. I don't think a bumpy ride has too much to do with this particular part, but I do see your point on other parts.

I drive my car to downtown Chicago at least 3 times a week, and with construction and what not I am always hitting some bumps, maybe some just have faulty ballasts or something.

Who knows.

Could be the weather, but my car is garage kept so that may be a plus.

Well I solved the tranny problem, and the brake issue.... so one more to go!

my car has had all 106000kms driven in toronto... if you only knew how much shit they tear up here. and i got original lights and ballasts apparently. So I don't think bumps matter on the stock set-up. I think it's the stiffer set-up that inherit this issue... but that's simply speculation.

You can believe w/e the cause is, I'm just shooting out ideas

mine lasted 100k before one of the ballests finally crap out, previous owner had no issues with them, (bought it from a customer, put a new ballest in , and has been fine for the last 4k or so

btw shop i work at has maintained since it had 7K on it, so we would have records of it

i bought mine from a DLR, it had 81000kms on it... all service records on file, one owner, no accidents... so that's how i know

The one perk of getting a DLR car.. u know where it's been, how it's been treated, and how she's holdin up

bought the car used from a guy I worked with, he showed me every single receipt of work that came with the car cuz he had some TLC thing fromt he dealership, nothing was ever replaced, other than a radio.

And as far as what I can tell, from looking the car over, everything still looks like OEM stuff.

Still have original rotors too 135k on them they probably need to be replaced soon though

I work at a DLR and every used car we sell we say "one owner all maintence done here ect..ect.." so i dunno if I would trust evrything people tell you... I am selling my car and told the guy its on its 3rd tranny, rotors warp, SRS light has been fixed by dlr 5 times and is still on, car misfires cuz the coil packs go out easy, and the headers make a horrible resonance noise.. oh and I replaced each ballast and bulb at least one time, but would u rather me lie to him..NO.. what do u expect when spending $3500 on my car..
I does drive GREAT and has a newly rebuilt tranny in it!

Well thats all great and all but the guy is one of the guys i grew up with, and was in the military with him and he used to give me rides to work all the time, kinda like brothers almost, besides it was a highway only car, so you believe what you want, and ill believe what I want, and I trust him, he saved my ass in Iraq so thats good enough for me.

Hence the reason why I bought the car.

it's hard to lie about the fact there has only been one owner when you have their name and address in ur hand,. plus carfax, and a shit load of other documentation, including acura's service records which match my other data to a tee.

definitely didn't get fooled on that point. that's why I paid up the nose in the grand scheme of things. looking back i could have nocked 2gs off my car, but i didn't give a shit and was in a rush.

Unlike my moms car she just got yesterday from the DLR, nocked them down from 25000 to 22 something

LOL it was all me too, i even told the salesman, "you make more off a used car than a new one so you can afford to drop the price SOME MORE." hehehe
