So my brother has narrowed the car choice down to...

Either a used '01 740i or '02 M3. Guess which one I told him to buy He might pull the trigger on the M today. He's been vacillating between BMW & MB for a couple of weeks...

Who wants a ride??

edit: He's looking at the vert!

740i with sport pack and the M parallel spoke wheels looks SICK too. Though I would go with the M3 I think, that car is AWESOME!

I saw this guy in Saratoga last summer during the Travers races and he had a 740i sport w/ a full-on Dinan pkg including supercharger! The guy driving had to be at least 60 y.o. when he pulled the thing up in front of the hotel we were staying at (Gideon for those who know) you cld just hear this was no normal 740 so I approached and asked. My friend was w/ me he said to my wife "does he always do this?" She said yeah, sometimes. Guy showed me the engine, and OMG it was incredible. he said you have a good ear. So, on that note, having room for 4 to travel in pure luxury and speed my vote goes to the ------ M3!!

IMHO, I'd go with the 740 as it's much more practical with the 4drs,. I just like the luxo-cruiser! Either way your bro goes, he can't go wrong! Post some pics when decided!

of course he will have to buy that Z8 used as BMW tells Z8 owners that in order to keep their cars rare and valuable, they will be limited production (duh) for a limited time span....which ends this year. (this is comes from my friend who owns a Z8)

Damn, either a 740 or a M3. No really losers in this case.

Good choice in the 740.

E46 M3's have had mechanical problems, transmissions, differentials, rods through blocks, etc.

I'd say 740i (I'm a minority)

Since the 740i just received a new bodystyle, I think the 01 looks dated already.

I don't like the new body style. The previous gen looks much better imo.

Read the 10'02 Roundel today and am full of useles trivia. For instance, the new 7-series is the best selling 7-series to date. Also, BMW sold a few Z8s shy of 1,000 last year and is only on pace to sell 500 this year.

As for the 4dr (740i/iL) versus 2dr (M3) debate, give me the M. It's an M! However, having only two doors can be a royal pain in the ass. I find it bothersome to stow junk in the backseat because I'm too lazy to flip the seat forward and move the seatbelt so I try to cram it over the front seat. Also, my passengers get confused on entry / exit (maybe they're just dumber than others?!) and how the front seat moves out of the way. However, as the driver, this really doesn't bother me too much ... that being said, I'd gladly move upto a TLS from my CLS if they weren't more $. Two doors or four? How often do you need a bigger backseat?
