So I may total my car :/

This past weekend I came home from school and parked my car in front of my house. During the day and a half I was home, a 70+ year old woman managed to hit my parked car.

I have the decision to total it or have it repaired. Thing is, I'm a broke college student who doesn't really need a car at the moment. Plus I still need the 105k service done on the CL and a couple other minor things. I'm leaning toward totaling it but haven't made a decision yet.

Here are pics of the damage

My car:

Wow that doesn't seem nearly enough damage to total the car. Is there more damage that isn't in the photos? What was the amount of the estimated damage?

I would have to say most of that damage is mechanical. That wheel is crooked as hell! That sucks bro. Hate to see another CL go.

Theres suspension damage there.

How much are they giving you? Keep in mind, if you fix it, your resale will take a hit because it was in an accident. Id take the money and do as nspec said.

I thought resale value is only affected if the car has a salvage title?

People run the carfax, they see it was in an accident, and wonder why. Boom, value drops.

Buy it back for sure. as for parting it out or not, thats up to you. If you wanna keep the car, seek out someone that can rebuild the car for you for cheap with junkyard parts.

guys, be a little sensitive to the owner. His car just got hit. If he's gonna part out, wait for the BM thread to surface.

once an insurace company totals a car its given a salvage title. when someone buys it and fixes it, then the title becomes a rebuilt title.

Update:

So the insurance company has offered me $8200 with a little wiggle room. I'm going to counter based off the things done to the car but am not expecting much more. Although I'm already quite happy with their offer.

And to everyone saying to part it out, it's just not something I have the time for. I am 100 miles from home at school. And I know my mom won't let me keep the car to part it out while I'm not home so that's out of the equation. I'm just going to be without a car for a while considering I really don't need one because of my living situation. I plan on investing most, and buying a decent used car when I really need one.

I say try to haggle a little, but I would take it and run. See if you could grab any small aftermarket parts from the car and replace it with stock if you have it at home. Like your ipod adapter or CAI (as seen in your sig)

8200 will buy you another really nice CL in this market, or any other car without tranny problems. heck, if someone offered to pay me 8200 for my car right now, id take it. and its not even hit lol

She messed the Civic up pretty good too.

I suggest ripping that spoiler off and selling it in the BM. The ins company shouldnt complain too much about it.
