so which car company does both
ok i know this may not be a big deal for most of you people but im almost paranoid and love to think about details
the one thing that bothers me about my cl-s is the fact the homelink system can be used even with the car off and no key in the ignition
i was driving my dads bmw x5 and i had my passport 8500 hooked up. when i got out of the truck i hear the damn thing go off so i freak. turns out that you have to unplug things out of the cig outlet to turn the power off. that is so inconvient. i just love how the japaness cars turn off as soon as you remove the key.
Well when i got back into the car i tried to close the garage door using the bmw built in remote system, i kept pressing the button but it didnt work, then i realized that i had to put the key in the ignition and turn it to get it to work!
so whats the big deal about the whole homelink thing? well i have to park my car in the driveway because there is no more room in the garage. well sometimes im worried that some freak is going to smash open my car window and open the garage and enter the house. yeah i know i know if someone wants to trespass into someone elses property they will but if you dont give them too many options its a better prevention system
And the whole cig outlet thing, im just too damn lazy to pull the thing out everytime i get out of the car!
so which auto company makes the perfect car out in the market???

While I completely understand and get a good out of your paranoia, I don't really get why the post... do you wanna know maybe how to make a mod to turn off homelink (with ignition) in your Acura? Or another mod to make the cig lighter turn off with ignition in the BMW?
Would you be willing to buy a new car if I tell you it's got both the things you want?

My VW too leaves the two outlets on all the time, BUT, after reading the manual, I learned that my car has a battery-protection feature that prevents a plugged in device to run the battery down. I accidently left a 400W inverter plugged into the cig. lighter while on a 4 day vacation, came back and noticed it off, I thought for sure my car was dead, but I turned the ignition on and the inverter turned on from its off state and the car started just fine.
as for the homelink, there is a DIY mod that you can do to have the homelink only turn on with the key in the ignition on our CLs. Look it up, I've been meaning to do it but my town is safe enough (knock on wood), so I see no need to.

back when car cig lighters really were cig lighters they usually were hooked to permanent positive (not tied to ignition), guess so you could sit in the car and smoke...
my guess in these days of lawyers nobody wants a kid unattended in a car burning himself w/ a cig lighter so the circuit got tied to ignition.
IMO it's a pain in the ass b/c I can't leave my cell phone in the car to charge overnite when I'm away and forgot my wall charger.
BTW, anybody know an easy way to hook the console adapter to permanent positive?

its weird cause my dads fiancee just bought a Lincoln LS-v8 when her 1993 legend hit 400,000....and my dad hates driving it cause nothing (radio, climate control) turns off when we remove the key....you have 2 lock it for it 2 turn off....i dont really like the lincoln, but thats probably cause i was raised as an acura lover....my dad has owned
-2003 acura TL type S
-1999 acura TL
-1996 acura TL
-1993 acura legend type 2 coupe
-1988 acura legend
he will only ever own acuras...and apparently i will be the same way
