I was going down indian school road in phoenix az and from about a half mile away I spot some ugly rice to kill. The target was a older dodge neon with a body kit, ugly white rims, altezzas, a dodge symbol in the rear window and to make it all really ugly it was painted bright orange! poor guy it was obvious that he put a lot of work into it.
I pulled up to him at a traffic light and looked over, the kid didn't pay attention. He was watching the lights and got the jump on me. In first gear I caught up and was right next to him. I then looked over at him and floored it. I was easily 4-5 cars ahead by second gear. That was the first time he got smoked. We then turn left going onto the I-17 freeway. He tried to go around me to pass me on the right but I floored it and was about 3 cars ahead. That was the second time I smoked him. Then merge on the I-17 freeway going north and he somehow gets 4 lanes over into the express lane. I cut through some light traffic and get in the lane next to him. He slows down indication that he wants more. I floor the gas for a second to let him hear my poor mans short ram intake and he laughs. I then floor it again and see his shit eating grin as he looks at his oversized tach. His engine sounded like *&(^%$. I then got sick of his ugly orange car and floored it in third and hold the gas hard. I hit 110 before I shut it down and he was waaayyyyy far back. I saw him turn off about a mile later...

While this neon was really fun to play with and easily smoke I am affraid that when dodge releases their new "high performance" neon it won't be so fun anymore. Anyone have the same concerns?

those new neons will beat a CL-S with headers, no problem....in stock form they are pulling 14.3 or less

the srt-4(new neon) is a competitor with the wrx in the quarter mile and us 0-60. The fact that its fwd like our cars makes it slower. But those are also car and driver numbers and they blow

I really wouldn't give a shit if the new Turbo neons are faster than CL's. It's hard to accept, but then theres small things like.....dependability and looks.

Believe it or not, there is quite an aftermarket for current generation Neons. It's possible for them to take out a viper with ease. The one you ran into was obviously showing more than it was going. Good kill. Just watch out, maybe next time you'll be scratching your head, saying "Tell me I just imagined what happened."

The SRT-4s are the second fastest accelerating dodge in their lineup. Second to the Viper. Not bad with a warranty from the factory. Imagine what a MBC with a slight bump in boost might do. About time a domestic company brought back a turbocharged 4 in a sport compact. Looks like they are doing it right. Even if it's only playing catch-up now.

SCC did a test on the new srt-4 and managed to hit 14.1 in the 1/4. with slicks, its a easily a mid 13 sec car.
