smoked an M3

i didn tknow where to pu this but oh well....

so i pul up to a stop light. 2 left turn lanes only. i'm in the outer lane. a minute later, i'd say a 98, M3 pulls up in the inside lane. i even up with him. light turns green i get a good start get arround the turn. ahead of him for a bit, and he starts gunning it. i put it into sport shift, down shift. we were both going arround 60 and he eventually has to brake to get behind me to get to the right lane merge area. i think he was trying to get in front of me to beat e o the stop sign. but i deny him. pretty dumb story but i am proud. my firt challenge you could say. CL all the way!!!!!!!

The M3 SHOULD win, assuming the CLS is stock, but it really is close enough in the straight where the advantage goes to the car that floors it first. The M3 would catch up eventually, but it sounds like this race was over pretty quickly. So......good kill.

you'd be surprised to find out what a modded (bolt on/no forced induction) e36 m3 would do to a stock e46

Like what? Trackwise I've heard the E36 is superior, but powerwise (bolt-on) how does the E36 stack up? I'm actually asking here, cuz I don't know nutin' about M3's.

wouldn't like to go too off topic... however yes, Trackwise the E36 is superior, as for powerwise (bolt-on) the Euro HFM kit with supersprint headers/catless and custom tuned software will bring an E36 M3 to or past a stock E46's door in a race (personal experience here).

How is that possible? The E36 only have 240hp vs. 333hp in the E46. Are you saying that H/E/Chip makes up for the 90hp deficit? Is the E46 signficantly heavier?

Last I knew the E46's ran low-mid 13's, and E36's were low-mid 14's, both in coupe manual transmission form.

And good kill to the original poster. I wish there were more of them around here. All I ever see are E46's and they are driven by old farts who drive 5 under.

yes, both in STOCK manual transmission coupe form.

i/h/e... you have to realize the "euro hfm kit" is just like adding a larger MAF to your 5.0 adds more HP than a cone filter perse. Changes the stock 3.0" MAF to a 3.5" MAF. Also, removing the cats on the OBD-I equipped M3's (95 only) adds more WHP than you would think. Just think... headers on the E36 can add 20 WHP... 240 crank on the E36 plus 20 WHP ~ 25 crank HP that alone will take it from 240 crank to 265 crank. Factor in the larger intake setup and catless exhaust system, figure another 20 crank hp... you're sitting at 285 crank hp in a light, n.a., 5spd. RWD car... not too shabby... then add the larger injectors figure another 10 crank HP... 295 crank HP, near 300 crank HP in a light, n.a. 5spd RWD car. I'll get in line

^ werd and the e36 is lighter. I give the e46 the edge, but if a modded e36 is done right it can put up a good fight. Forgot to mention to change the lsd to a 3.43 or higher, then for sure the m3 should be runnin around 13.4-13.6
