Smog ? to California CL owners . . .

Anyone had to get the biannual smog check yet. Need my 1st one this month and want to know if there is anything I need to look at before the test.

I had our 1999 TL-P done last August for the first time. Just cleaned the Icebox filter and changed the oil. Passed with flying colors.

Damn, I'm afraid to fail after I put on my high flow cat... but that'll be 3 more years or so for me.

yeah high flow cat will more than likely fail... Just make sure youclean the air filter and stuff. Do you have any illegal smog modification....ie non carb exempt headers or something

Yeah - you're screwed unless you have some hookups that will look the other way on the visual. You can probably pass the treadmill part but the visual is where you definitely will fail.

Even though you're not "Legally" supposed to replace the Cat unless it fails and you document why it was replaced, I would be surprised if that fails you. I've been to Test Only centers and most of the guys are too lazy to get down on the ground and take a look at the Cat.

I would be surprised if you pass. Possibly if the shop is kickback about their testing but most of the guys I see nowdays are concerned about their licenses.

What mods do you have?

Don't trip on the visual test guys... most shops wouldn't even think to look for mods on a CL. XS Powers will pass emissions, but not visual... just take your car to a place in the ghetto!

High flow cats shouldn't be a reason to fail. It still has the material inside of it like a normal cat, just not as much of it. It's why "high flow" cats are smog legal. As for the visual, try and put the stock header shield on, to cover the headers.

I live in the san jose, ca ( south bay area). Any know of a place that is lenient on their visual inspection? I dont care about the cost as long as i can pass. It saves me the trouble of taking out my headers, then its worth it.

Since you live in San Jose, pm me and we can discuss. Let's just say if you REALLY want to pass without any worries to your mods.......
